Phone providers

Anyone use the smaller phone providers? Wind, Mobilicity, Koodo. etc?

Im looking to get a new plan and phone, but the big 3 (Rogers(Fido), bell and telus) are fags.

Looking for Data and voice.

Opinions, thoughts, advice on how to not get raped.

I'm using wind mobile. $40 a month unlimited everything, including calling to the USA, which I do often as my sister has been residing there for 4 years while her hubby is working on finishing up his oral surgery degree, and they have another 3.5 years to go. I get reception through pretty much all the GTA. No contract, no BS, no retarded charges... $45 a month including taxes and im good. when my sis moves back to Canada, I'll switch to the local plan which is $30 a month unlimited text talk and data.

Phone selection is not that amazing, but then again, I don't live on my phone so it's not important to me; they got some decent smart phones. The extra $$ I save is what funds my TD donations :P

So reception and shit is good? Im with fido now and I cant even make calls 50% of the time and im IN Toronto.

I'm on the fringe of their service area in Brampton and I don't have reception issues. I get a strong signal in Mississauga and Toronto without any problems so far. Dec 28th of this year it will be exactly 1 year I've been with Wind, and so far it's great! I can maintain long convos with my sis in the USA , and the same for local calls, and the line doesn't cut off or disconnect. I'm happy with it ;)

My brother went with mobilicty and has a lot of reception issues, just so you know. His calls cut off, he loses the signal a lot here in Brampton. So I don't know about them, but it doesn't seem as good as what I'm getting through Wind.

Then your phone is a pile of shit. I'm all over the GTA and there are only two dead zones I've found with Fido. Over 8 years with Fido, 5 different phones but my LG chocolate wouldn't get reception for shit compared to any of the Nokia's I've had.

Nokia E71 :S it mostly dies at home (address will not provide) and yes the LG chocolate was the worst, had one, couldnt call anything anywhere.

I had Wind for about 6 months with the cheapest huwei phone, I'm not sure if it was Winds network or the phone, but the service was complete shit!

Mobilicity has been very good for me so far, I am using the E71. I really like it, good reception and battery life, and I tether it to my laptop through bluetooth from time to time, works great. Here is my plan, take note if you prepay 12months you can get somthing like a 33% discount, very good deal imo.

Ya Remy I'd say it's your phone as well. I've been with fido for about 6-7 years, and have NEVER come across a dead zone. Near lake, out in the boonies = no problems. Wind/Mobilicity etc. may be good in the city, but here in the suburbs, it's pure roaming, waste of money.

Yeah ive heard both good and bad things about wind and mobilicity, its like some people love it some people hate it 50/50.

Im in toronto which is where i use it most, from time to time ottawa but i dont mind pay long distance for that.

I just dont want to pay double of what I have only to get 500 mb.

250 day time
unlimited eve/week 5pm start
unlimited incoming
2500 txt.
Voicemail, caller ID.

27.50 before taxes now.

They want 50 to just add 500mb.

yeah mobilicity's data plan is legit as far as i can tell, i dont use that much data but it is always good, and that $25/month is just $25+hst

Iiii dunno... I feel like I'm getting raped as well, but I don't ever Roam in the GTA, from Barrie to Hamilton, and I never don't have amazing reception.

- Unlimited minutes, any time, any day
- Unlimited text
- Caller/Name Display
- Call waiting
- Call Forwarding
- 6GB data (I share between my two phones, a Blackberry for phone use, and HTC for everything else)
- $78/month tax in.

But I look around, and everywhere else is either more expensive, or I'm confined to too small a 'zone', so I'd be roaming 24/7 :(

how long have you been with fido remy? if you are out of contract, call in and threaten to cancel. they will transfer you to "customer relations" (aka retention) who's only fucking job is to try and get you to stay with rogers/fido. if you are a long-standing customer with good history, you should be able to wheedle out a decent plan for yourself and not have to worry about roaming charges for sending a text in the wrong part of town because wind's network sucks dick.

frankly if you want the good network coverage from the big 3, family share plans are the way to go. most bang for buck, and they get cheaper the more people you put on them. if you dont mind getting dropped calls more often and not being able to use your phone outside the city, WIND is probably your best bet.
