Well guys, be carefull when buying at Petro Canada locations - especially if a small place.

Today my debit accoutn was robbed. My bank opened an investigation and they could only tell me that it was a Petro Canada where they got the money from.

In the last 6 onths, I've only bought gas from 1 PC location ... somewhere around 401 - 27 - Dixon area. Be mindfull of that area if by any chance you ever end up there.

Completely unhelpful though.

Its safer to stick with a standard credit card imho. Many more protections built in versus a debit card. So long as you pay off the balance in full at the end of every month.

A debit card is safer then a credit card. I will be reinbursed 100% on what it has been stollen within 5 days.

For all the other ones ... I only wanted to give you guys some heads up. Now if you guys care or not and want to just troll around ... is fucking up to you.

I think they're equally secure. My Visa has all this fucking chip technology, pretty much identical to my interac card.

thing is, and its never happened to me personally, but apparently if somebody rips off your visa, you have an avenue to say, "I didn't buy that" and visa apparently just takes care of it.

They call and ask you your last few purchases and do an investigation. Or at least they did that for me when ppl fucked with my visa.

Then a month later i got another call, this time about my debit card lol.

ya 35 this has happend to me my bank told me to be carfull of bar ATMs as well and conviniense stores are bad for this kind of thing i know my bank will cancel my card even if i use it on a machien someone else got information stolen hopefully this is all that happend to you

It has happened to my debit 3 or 4 times already over the past few years. And one of the times, my card had a chip. The problem with the chip is, not all the machines can read the chips yet, so most places i go, i have still have to swipe.
BMO has always shut down my account whenever they suspected it to be compromised. So i've never experienced any loss. However, i have had the embarrassment of going shopping and getting DECLINED, because my card was blocked by the bank lol. Better safe than sorry tho.

Not trying to be a prejudice or to make racial profiling remarks, and i really hope noone gets offended here, but be on the lookout for Tamils when using your cards. Tamils are notorious in the credit/debit card fraud business in the GTA. I myself caught a few of them trying to buy with stolen credit cards when i used to work at best buy.

Thats not prejudice, some ethic groups are very adept at this sort of thing, here in Alberta it's the Asians, don't use your cards for Chinese food here lol.

The process is the same for both visa and debit. Actually, some visa/master cc providers will not cover you if you don't buy a "small" coverage plan.
Plus, the down side with the ccs is that you still have the interest ... which can be very high for some ...

ps. I had my bank account put on hold while travelling in Europe... I was an idiot and forgot to notify them beforehand and I got to Barcelona and I couldn't get any money lol... took me like 6 hours to get it back...

Is funny because the guy was robbing me while I was still in bed sleeping :) - 6:50am.

My wife checked on line account around 9:30, we called the bank and locked my account. 3 minutes after, the guys tried again, but fortunately it was locked :). And that's when they got them too. Same place.
