to start: not my computer. mom's-in-law i5 took a shit.

doesnt boot. can get to bios, but crashes. crashed in bios, which ruled out a software problem (afaik). im suspecting some kind of overheat or burn. screen goes into... picture the typical tv snow, but with color. gonna perform surgery tomorrow when sober to look for hardware diarrhea.

suck my dick, thx, bye

My very first build had a problem like that. I was overclocking and fucked around with the voltage without knowing what I was doing. Replaced the motherboard and worked alright.

take everything out, then check for burns on the mobo, especially around the ram and cpu. then put one piece of hardware back in at a time, and try to make it work with as few parts as possible, adding a new part after each successful reboot. my guess is a fucked up mobo though.

You said its a pc, not a laptop right?
If its a power supply you wouldn't get snow effect, it would work fine, then shutdown or not even boot up with dead psu.
I would say you're motherboard is the problem- video is probably off the motherboard.

As pyro stated you're best bet is to check with least amount of hardware connected.
Disconnect everything on the motherboard except for the power [20/24pin + 4pin].
Then start with 1 stick of memory, TEST then add another component TEST and repeat.
