Leroy

2012 Troll of the Year
I gave my system a freshy, on a brand new HD, after I bought my gfx card. Perfect, things run nice.. after all the XP fixes/patches/driver updates, my system developed some sort of odd sound glitch. Hard to explain, but it seemed as though the sound was skipping.

You couldn't find a more ambiguous oddity, and of course the forums were filled with noobs saying "My sound doesn't work!".

The problem was occurring everywhere, from youtube, to media player, and even counterstrike, "caching" at the least appropriate times.

Well, lordy hallelujah, one obscure post in the far reaches of the known internets, claimed to have the solution, uninstall the primary IDE drivers, and reboot, and allow XP to automatically detect and configure.

That was the trick, it worked, and is better now.

Yeah Leroy I had a similar problem a while back, were the system would downgrade the HD (Go from Ultra 166 to 133 then downward) protocol every time there was an error writing to the disk. I have ProTools rig connected to my machine and when I would do fast punch-ins on a track sometimes the HD would glitch and the system would downgrade the protocol (I am guessing that's what it's called). Anyhow, everything started glitching.. CS and all the like (just like yours) and sure enough I had to reset the 'protocols' to Ultra 166 or whatever they had been. Never had a problem since. Effin Windows....

Im really happy with vista so far, no problems whatsoever, I keep the "allow, ignore" thing on as well
