I'm no tech major but I don't think problem has anything to do with tick rates at all. I'v played with a variety of possible settings to get a consistent gameplay on TD for 2 months with no luck, new 64tick was same problem even tho the choke seems to be down dramatically % wise.
I would guess it's the server host itself that just can't handle a 30 man server. eg. when it's 5vs5 on a fresh reboot you can clearly feel the game working properly. Skins and mod's could be adding to the problem but probably not the direct cause.
I'd say do some testing by lowering the player count or find a more powerful host that can support more people.

I'v never played a game online in over 10 years while in the same server from 1 hour to the next everything your doing becomes wrong, it makes no sense.

So have we concluded that 90% of the problem with the server is that VALVE has AIDS?

Has anyone tried removing some of the server MODS to see if there is a significant performance difference?

This might not be logical, but after a few years in tech support, you learn that it doesn't matter if it makes sense or not, what matters is the results.

If sticking your dick in the peanut butter makes the internet faster, then stick your dick in the peanut butter or suffer with slower internet.

Just so we're absolutely clear, there's a world of difference between 'choking like a motherfucker 128 tick' and 'properly functioning 128 tick'. I think that it's fair for me to say that no one here who's advocating for 128 tick is advocating for 'choking like a motherfucker 128 tick'. I think that it's also fair for me to say that many of the regulars have actually never seen 'properly functioning 128 tick' in action if TD is the only server that they've been playing on. However, if you've played on ABM's pub server or ESEA, then maybe you've experienced 'properly functioning 128 tick'.

I'd be trying to figure out what's causing TD's server to choke at 128 tick with the ultimate goal being to get it running well at that tick rate rather than deferring to Valve's recommendations. Like Tytanium said, Valve is basing those recommendations on what they believe the majority of players would benefit from in terms of performance. Valve's recommendations, in other words, are predicated on the notion that the majority of their customers are incapable of running the game well. But TD's regulars only account for a small fraction of Valve's total player base for CS:GO, so any kind of argument for 64 tick on TD's server carries very little weight for me. And like Tytanium said, 100 or whatever tick seems like a good temporary solution.

Haven't been around much but tried out the server a couple of times recently. Problem still exists so I'll continue to play elsewhere. I'll keep coming back once in a while to check cause I like the community but the server performance is a deal breaker for me.

This is just a suggestion, but I strongly feel that restarting the server once a day (preferably before noon, for obvious reasons) would have a tremendous impact on performance. Hit reg would be more consistent.

I think that would be good for tf2 considering PING is high as shit around the servers. I wouldnt know for CS considering i dont play it

I'm just wondering if you guys are still looking into this. I'm not seeing much choke, but the sv is all over the place, as I've said before. My frame rate literally seems to be getting progressively worse as time goes by, and it seems to correspond with the dips in the sv, and my frame rate is only getting worse in this server. It's a night and day difference between this server and other pub servers that aren't getting the sv dips. My frame rate is sub 100 FPS often, my ping is high, players are warping around, etc. And it's not just one or two players warping around, it's most players. In other words, it's really fucking bad at the moment. I can go into other pub servers and get my usual 200-300 FPS, but I don't want to play in those servers.
