I use OmmWriter Dana II all the time.

So it's an incredibly basic text processor? Like the thousands already out there? I don't get it.....

The point is to eliminate all the distractions around you and just put you in "the zone". I like it. I use it a lot when I'm writing out ideas. Sometimes I'll even start writing code in it.
You know how OS X has Spaces? One of my Spaces always has Ommwriter in it.

I really don't understand the big whoop over spaces. Virtual desktops have their uses, but having one for word, one for iexplorer, one for gay porn, and one for itunes would be pretty fucking stupid, how is this any different.
I mean unless you're gonna bot 10 WoW accounts at once and are a MacFag...

But what does Spaces really do? Say you want a space for just writting and all you have on it OmmWriter, what the fuck does that really do. If your going to get distracted you will just as easily toggle to a different space as open another program already on that space.

Well, I guess I'll bite. For me, it's very useful because it gives me 8 screens to work with, or 8 desktops (4 per monitor, as I have two monitors).
On my main screen, I'll have Logic Pro 9 running, and on the 3 extra spaces, I'll have multiple folders open for samples (audio samples) where I constantly gotta rename shit, change file locations etc. On the other screen, I have browsers, chat (msn, livechat, whatever), iTunes can take a page. Now I set my right click on Magic mouse to activate spaces, and when I do, it's incredibly seemless, and very fast.
The idea (for me, at least) is productivity. My mouse doesn't ever travel far, or to unnecessary spots, and my left hand never has to leave the keyboard. And when you're working on a couple hour project, that shit REALLY comes in handy.
I thought it was all gay too, until I used it, and realized how much it helps me.

There's no point in talking about my workflow with someone flunking out of college
I use spaces when I'm on the Mac, but don't miss it on the PC. PC I can navigate naturally, alt-tabbing is the exact same thing for me as spaces ends up being. I think it's the weird 'maximizing' on Mac that leads me to end up wanting a separate desktop per app. Since you can't easily make an application take up the whole screen, you end up with 15 overlapping applications causing a mental clusterfuck. Whereas on windows I'll just maximize my screens and alt-tab through them. Mac is nice in some respects, but leagues ahead of anything, it is not.

Spaces does not equal alt-tab - that's Exposé's job. And of course, the alt-tab-like command-tab, which like alt-tab I find clumsy. Spaces is for assigning specific tasks to a separate virtual desktop.
For example, I have my social media/chat/browser on one space, my research/writing tools on another, photo editing/graphics, etc... and then use Exposé when switching between windows.
Also, what res are you running if you're maximizing a bunch of programs? I can't imagine maximizing anything other than Photoshop, Illustrator or Lightroom/Aperture on 2560x1600.
For example, I have my social media/chat/browser on one space, my research/writing tools on another, photo editing/graphics, etc... and then use Exposé when switching between windows.
