What's all the nerd shit we need to get in the same game? What realm, alliance/horde, suggested race? Any tips on starting out?

Realm: Stormreaver-US
Server Type: PVP (meaning we can also fight other players i.e. Alliance)
Timezone: CST (Central Standard Time, which is EST -1hr)
Faction: Horde
TD Guild name: BothMyDadsPlayAlliance

For starting out, the various zones will have beginner quests to familiarize you with whatever class you choose to play, but before we even get to that, what class and role do you want to play?

What do YOU want to be when you grow up?
Melee? Ranged?
Tank? DPS (short for Damage Per Second, a.k.a. the offense)? Healer?

After you know what you want to play as, you need to choose a race (Orc, Troll, Undead, Tauren, Blood Elf, Goblin) that supports the type class that you wish to play. Each race has its own, uh, perks. Logically, you would want to pick a race that gives perks that would benefit the role you wish to play (i.e. if you were playing a warrior, you might want to choose a race that gives perks to using melee weapons -- although this isn't necessary as it's mainly a social/appearance choice)

And don't worry too much about getting stuck with one particular role because at a certain level you can learn the ability to dual-spec, meaning you can have to different sets of skills for different roles.

I suggest you read this beginner's guide here:
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/game/guide/what-is-wow

And if you're still interested and want to join us, we can show you the ropes as you level and learn new skills, about the game, etc.

pic a spec and follow it closely. if you fuck it up you will lose dps, so just reset it.

also, the harder you smash your face into the concrete, the less wow you need to play.

Auron, you can ignore iSeize. When you fail to get past the simplest of raids even with a 30% buff, you tend to grow bitter and distant as time goes by.

I will tell you this: raiding in WoW requires a fair amount of being aware of what's around you so you don't die to trivial shit, good communication, and good positioning with the rest of your raid members. It's kinda like scrimming, except with more people, and against a power AI.

EDIT: I will also add that there is an element of the game and a phase in which you'll feel like you're spending a lot of time grinding out gear so you can do raids, but that's why we also do battleground and arenas (which is fighting against other players) and that, is hella fun!
