I keep seeing all these workshop items popping up in the steam window when I launch the game that sound interesting. Anyone know anything about them, and if they're being released soon?

They are just ideas that are made by people and things that valve will possibly consider adding if they receive a large number of good ratings.
Most of the new hats being recently added have been made by people that have submitted them to the workshop.
Not all items get added though, even if they do get a lot of community support.
At the end of the day, it's valves decision as to what may sell or may not sell well.

It just seems like fun for new weapons is all. I'm definitely gonna need a backpack extender.
A mobile sentry gun? That sounds unbelievably evil... I want to try it!

That hat for the solider that is a ceiling tile, I would totally buy that. 
Oh yeah I saw that. It looks like the soldier rocket jumped and got concrete stuck on his head.

Visit the Steam Workshop and up-vote the items you like.
Demand them in TF2, maybe Valve will consider it. I'm rather hurt that they didn't add the Rocket fix, where rockets from each of the launcher would be unique.

It's rather noticeable if you're in slow-motion, and more when you're reloading or seeing someone reload in 3rd Person.
What did that one do?
