tldr:I need someone to takeover my position for the server. Server-costs going up. Server's paid till August 6th

____This thread is to explore possible directions and to prospects for the Darkly minecraft server.

The first leg of our minecraft experience was started by Pyro and myself to see how well it would take. seems to have taken well.

____Current situation is server cycle ends on August 6th. Here is our servercost report
over 3 month period our costs where

our 20% discount has ended so the next quarterly bill will be

Activity has been mediocre for the last month about 4-5 people on at the same time on good days. but usually have around 1-2 people playing during peak hours. I haven't played in weeks and my low activity is predicted to persist. I need someone to takeover my position and feel the server would best be ran by one of the active members.
in August the serverfiles will be uploaded to mediafire and posted for anyone to use.

Someone has to takeover this show.
some quick thoughts are, swap to the darkly box, change hosting, or to dish out more money.

Unfortunately that's a negatory. It's best to keep that separate. Right now our donations go into powering Toronto Darkly, and with the rest of the resources on the box we've launched the surprisingly successful TF2 servers that are often full all day. Not to mention we'll be adding likely successful BF3 servers soon.

If the Minecraft server was some 30-60 slot server that was full constantly, then holy shit we'd have to seriously consider it. However, it is not. We often struggle as is to make the donation goal we have set now. Tacking on an additional $82 (even if quaterly) for a server that is frequented by a handfull of people just doesn't make sense.

Those who want to play are just going to have to foot the bill if they want to keep that server going.

Okay...this obviously doesnt sound so great. Just incase something happens, is there anyway we can back up the server to our home PCs?

I understand that MC certainly does NOT have even close enough support in this community to warrant it being hosted on the TD box. Nope not happening. so,
DEAN: can you upload the server info to some website so we can keep a copy of it on our computers. this way the file is safe for storage in case we want to start back up in the future.

Backups have to be able to be done.

And just so there's no misunderstanding with our box: with TD, BP's Crackhouse + GG, TF2 servers, and CS scrim, we'll likely come just under our 2TB bandwidth limit every month. So definitely not an option Nevermind there probably aren't enough resources left on the box for something as intensive as MC without making the other games shitty. Wish we could accomodate you guys, but NO VACANCY at Motel Darkly.

Don't get me wrong, I know I probably play the most out of all of you, but I don't have any way to pay for something online. I don't have a credit card and I'm not linking my debit card through paypal because thats just stupid.
