Don't know much yet, but I think it's over for Samsung, Nokia, lg, htc, rim, even apple unless they get with the best. These chips will have hyper threading, and I presume they will run some kind of linux kernel, or even regular windows, i think it would be sick to get a phone that can dock and be used as a normal desktop... http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-17769049

So some Indian company gets to be guinea pig for x86 on smartphones competing in a RISC-dominated market. It'll be impressive if power consumption is low enough to feasibly compete with RISC but it doesn't look like any of the big name phone manufacturers wanted to touch this shit with a ten foot pole so I'll subscribe for the lulz.

Too bad that Atom is so far behind it's not even funny. Hyper-threading means penis if the OS and every single app. is not ready for it, and too bad the 'new' Windows Mobile OS was recently released (it's not hyper-thread ready, as no text indicates it is ready... my assumption, I understand).

As for power consumption vs. speed, I think Snapdragon, Qualcomm, Samsung and Apple (Apple just bought Samsung's designs/patents and brands them Apple) have the very best SoC's (system on chip) on the market. They're fast as fuck, do not heat up (efficient) and thus lead to pretty good battery life, even on quad-core phones (Atom who?).

I appreciate Intel's effort to enter the market, after all competition is great - but, I know Intel will only go into Microsoft phones, and that's not really competition is it; if we're limited to buying 'their' phones... :/ Bunn 'em

As for kernels, all Android run Linux kernels and man are they amazing! (Not to mention the 10's of custom kernels available per phone. Pretty hard to compete!

the article does state that this phone will be using Android (ported to x86). Also, Intel has the advantage of manufacturing their own chips so if they're really hard for getting into the mobile market they can probably swing it. AFAIK Intel is at the top of the game in lithography so they can potentially leverage that to bring power consumption down enough to actually compete by delivering CISC to a platform that's been only RISC so far.

Yea, this MOAR POWER shit is getting useless. I want better battery life from my phone not more power :frown:

Vaaat a Fuuk?

Apple buys Licenses from ARM as does Samsung, LG, Qualcomm (Snapdragon in based on ARM), and, Nvidia. I'm sure there are more Companies who buy licenses.
Apple does the same shit Qualcomm is doing with SnapDragon, taking someone else's design modifying it and creating propaganda.

Sorry I meant ARM, not Samsung - I derped there. And I never meant anything negative by it, all I meant was to highlight all of SoC manufacturers to make my point that Intel's got mad competition :D
