Tell me, why can the other manufacturers make money and the domestics can't? That whole union labor thing is a crock, they make parts and cars allover the world, no different than the other guys. I will tell you why:

Top heavy. Poor management. Big bonuses and salaries.

Too many different models, look at how they all make 6 versions of an SUV. Make a sedan, make a minivan, make an SUV, etc, don't make 10 fucking models of each. Waste.

Quality is poor. That being said you get what you pay for. I bought my wife a Ford Fusion AWD, it has all the bells and whistles leather sunroof, microsoft sync etc, I looked at an Audi A4 with the same options, twice the price, so I bought the Ford. It's a gamble, maybe it will last as long as an A4, maybe not, overall it's not a bad car.

I'm in the market, and will probably go for the A4. I agree, top heavy, with any company. Including the one I currently work for, no bullshit, I count 4 leads for every one dev.

regardless, I think its all part of adam smith, the car companies want the best of both worlds, socialist, when times are rough, and capitalist when times are good. Fuck em, you make good cares, you reap the benefits.

I've been driving the same 98 honda civic SE for years, since university, it has not costed me a dime, save the CV joint that I replaced myself.

fuck em, its all part of adam smiths plan, I don't care anymore about ford than I do chevy, honda, mitsubishi(made the zero!!)

You guys might not like the cars but A huge chunk of our economy is based on the income of auto workers. if they take a guy who spends 100 grand a year and only give him 50, thats 50 grand that our economy doesnt see. I live in Windsor so i see alot of this shit first hand. I am not talking about the corporate execs and that side of the biz which is being cut out drastically, I worked TPT @ GM through college, and I still do outside contractor work in most of the auto plants from my job in the electrical union. I've seen the shit that goes down in every plant in the city. fuck last shutdown I installed an assembly line in the DCX minivan plant that eliminated 400 jobs over 3 shifts. you cant say that the big 3 arent trying.

For every big3 employee, there are 4 spin-off jobs. thats FOUR people whose income is dependant of one Big 3 worker. lay off 15000 people and then ask why the unemployment rate is skyrocketing. The union wrecked the big3 by turning them into pussies and giving in to every little demand. the union has the power, not the big3.

But just because THAT union is fucked you cant say that unions are the root of all evil. I'm a proud member of I.B.E.W. L.U. 773 and if it wasnt for my union and other unions out there, y'all motherfuckers would be sitting in the dark and living in cardboard boxes rather than in a fancy apartment building with your HDTV. just a few thoughts, I have more to say but i gotta get my ass to a union meeting. (and yes, I will always buy a domestic vehicle for the rest of my life, that is if they continue to make them)

Drugz makes a good point, double edged sword.
I'm personally a Toyota man myself, and always will be. I drive a 97 corolla and I just filled it for $27 , at .72 cents/liter. Being a student I just can't beat that.

Tho if I was rich as fuck, can't say I'd say no to a Dodge viper.

Toyota is great, they have lots of plants in NA and continue to build more. they also are unionized unlike some of the european car manufacturing plants over here. The problem is that even tho they are filling the pockets of the NA auto workers (nothing like the ammounts paid to big3 workers) the profits all leave us and go back overseas. Research and development is where the money is at in the auto industry, and that cash is goin straight back to the motherland.
