Again, 47, you're not gonna get a decent gaming laptop for under $1000 unless you suck dick and cradle the balls.
someone posted a link to
www.notebookcheck.net. Amazing website for laptop info (not most up to date with reviews) but it has a laptop GPU benchmark list as well as a CPU benchmark list:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmarklist.2436.0.html
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html
the gpu list even shows some dx9 and dx10+ games they have tested. Basically tier 1 & 2 mobile GPUs will run dx 9 and dx10+ games on at least medium to high settings.
Remember, RAM is only as fast as the processor's FSB. So if you buy a laptop with a chip that only has 800mhz FSB but with DDR3 RAM clocked @ 1066mhz, the RAM will only perform @ 800 mhz.
Dell has a bunch of deals right now, basically a bunch of laptops for under $700 (before tax).

My opinion on store bought laptops is that they only hold older models/versions of laptops. They hold onto merchandise, sometimes over 6 months old (which is like 2 years when it comes to technology). When they sell those "new" laptops (i mean all of them) they will then put out the newer models.
Don't buy laptops or even desktops from stores man. Buy online or build yerself.
Also, Spinny said the 8200M is decent....trust me, it isn't. It is rated even lower than the new intel GMA 4500s. My dad's "brand new" HP laptop from BestBuy was $650 before a friend discount and has a P8700 GPU with intel 4500HD GMA and 4 gigs DDR2. Runs fine for the simple things he does, but it does not play games well. I can't even run CSS at low settings on its native resolution unless I play it with 15fps avg. Even at 640x480 on low, I only get 60 fps at best with 27 avg.
Mike is right about the p8700m processor, it is rated higher overall than the t6600.
When it comes to laptops 47, you get what you pay for. Try dell or even MSI laptops. I've been doing big research for a laptop for Australia, an overall system that provides me with a decent gaming and performing rig.
I know you want something under $1000, but I have been looking at the Dell studio XPS 13/16 or studio lines. They had a studio 17 with ATI 1gb 4650 for $1199 earlier with a core i7-720QM processor. $200 bux more, but with a high end processor, 4 gigs ddr3 ram and a dedicated gpu that can run L4d/2, CSS on high settings, and even crysis on medium settings.
The bigger the laptop, the higher the resolution which means you need a bigger GPU to play on native resolutions. Smaller laptop with same GPU = better performance. So if you are thinking of getting a 16"+ laptop, make sure it has at least 512mb dedicated vid card for any sort of gaming. 13" and smaller, you could probably play CSS on medium with a 256 dedicated GPU.
