Well its apparent that my dual Radeon HD 4850 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 in Xfire mode won't really let me play BF3. Everything looks pretty so long as I don't move.

Suggestions on a new card or cards (motherboard also supports Nvidia)? Definitely want to keep it in the sub $300 range either way.

I just picked up a 6870 for $170. it plays BF3 on high 1680x1050 without FPS lag.

I bought one thinking if FPS was shit I'd xfire two of them but didn't have to.

Yea, anything I've read says it "dumbs down" to the lower cards memory/core speeds same for the amount of VRAM it has.

+1 6870 has dropped in price and it is a damn decent card right now. I currently use it. Was thinking same as cock but I having no issues with it so I wont need a second one.

This thread changed my mind after I did my own research on my next graphics card to buy.
I was looking at the GTX 570 but for about the same price 2x 6870 > gtx570.

if you dont wanna fuck around with xfire, i have a 6970 which is around 300 bucks, and it takes everything ive thrown at it without breaking a sweat. I'll probably get a second when they release the next generation so I can get another year or 2 out of it.

im still running a 5850 and im running alot of BF3 on ultra, try turning your AA down and put shadows on low, turn the ambient ocultion off as well, you may be able to run the game on what you have

my settings are all on high, texture and model quality are on ultra, aa is at 8x instead of 16 and shadows are on low, dynamic shadows are a bitch to render, its where almost all cards fall down, i have ambient oclution on since i didnt see any fps lag with it off so i tried it on. so you might be able to get some play outa the cards till the new one arives

Take a look at the 560 ti vs 560

The Ti version slightly edges out the 6870 where as the regular 560 is a limp dick.

It does not. Origin requires you to create a new one. "buckshotjr" was taken (weird?) so I took "TDbuckshotjr", and created a password.
