This was HTC, not all Android phones. Also, it was never proven that it was recording anything, rather that it contained the possibility of doing so.
You're paranoid, man.
I'm not making this stuff up, these are all things I read in multiple news articles. It's actually sad that so many people are misinformed and don't want to believe the abuses that are going on out there.

"Carrier IQ claims its software is installed on over 140 million devices with partners including Sprint, HTC and allegedly, Apple and Samsung. Nokia, RIM and Verizon Wireless have been alleged as partners, too, although each company denies such claims." So more than just HTC...
"From a permissions standpoint -- with respect to Android -- the software is capable of logging user keystrokes, recording telephone calls, storing text messages, tracking location and more. It is often difficult or impossible to disable."
"In the following video, Trevor presents much of his findings, which seemingly demonstrate Carrier IQ's keystroke logging, location tracking and ability to intercept text messages. Even information that should be transferred only within encrypted sessions is captured in plain text by Carrier IQ. During the entire demonstration, Trevor's phone was in airplane mode, operating only over WiFi. Although his actions were outside the scope of his wireless carrier (Sprint), the software continued to monitor his every key press. On his Android device, it's evident that Carrier IQ is running, even though it does not appear in the list of active processes. Further, the application doesn't respond to "Force Quit" commands, and it's set to startup when Android launches."
"The software has the ability to record nearly every action you perform with your phone. The actual data logged, however, isn't determined by Carrier IQ, but rather its clients."

"In the wake of the Carrier IQ blowup
of the last few weeks, a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was filed asking for “manuals, documents or other written guidance used to access or analyze data gathered by programs developed or deployed by Carrier IQ.”
The FBI has since responded to
Muckrock’s missive stating that such records existed but they were not currently available because their release could affect ongoing investigations."
"This is being read in many circles as tacit confirmation that the FBI indeed uses Carrier IQ. As far as whether or not the FBI has used the software, it almost certainly
has."
Hmm, so all my suspicions are confirmed. But here I am being called the conspiracy theorist. I think the inherent problem is, a good portion of you don't live in the United States, so you don't care if our FBI has access to your information, it's not like they're going to come to Canada to come get you for downloading movies illegally or whatever. But right now, here in the United States, people are being jailed and discriminated against for their beliefs...in our Constitution. Which to many of us, is a very scary thing, which to many of us, means we are turning the very foundation our country was founded on, upside down, and possible on the way to tyranny.
