the monitor itself has a speaker on it and does not have any audio-out plugs. so when i connect ps3 HDMI, it forced me to use the shit built-in speaker.

HDMI - carries HD video signal and HD sound signal

DVI - carries HD video signal only
Optical/Coaxial - carries HD sound signal only

The benefit of HDMI is all in one, hence, it WILL take all your video AND sound. You have no choice. Unless your PS3 has an option in some menu (maybe the core PS3 menu, not the in-game one) to bypass mic communication through another sound output, you're shit out of luck.

The only monitors that I can think of (I work @ FutureShop, and keep up with all electronics anyway) is HP. They have built-in speakers and hence, an audio hack (input only, if I'm not mistaken). Other than that, you won't find that option :/

You gotta bypass the bitch, or use a normal connection so sound is seperate.

You'd have to somehow get that going through your pc first, THEN to your monitor (your PC could theoretically split the signal now - video to your screen, audio to your speakers where you could plug your headphones in too)... That's the only way UNLESS! (see below)

- you use your multi A/V output with a component video/RCA audio output shown here:

ps3_avcables.jpg

Then you need TWO adapters - one for component to HDMI (to your monitor); the other an RCA to 3.5mm stereo jack.

Here's the audio converter:

You could connect this to your computer's "Line-In" (usually a blue jack, right next to your green "Speaker Out" jack) jack. This would enable the sound to pass through your computer, and then you could plug your headphones in the usual green "Speaker-out" jack, and mic in the pink "Mic-In" Jack.

Now the video

This is one unit I found to take your component video and convert it to HDMI (to plug into your monitor, for picture only).

I don't know the price because they're out of stock.

So far, this is the only way to properly split your signal, while maintaining high quality picture (primary concern, since digital audio won't do shit if you're on headphones).

I'll try to work some next shit out for you.

Like BJ said, switch the audio on the PS3 from HDMI to whatever, not sure don't own a PS3 but there's gotta be somewhere you can tell it to use analog / digital audio out instead no?
