i got the acer S243HL (shut up steve)

i just noticed today that it emits a quiet, annoying, hi pitched noise. its the loudest in the dimmer settings and quietest in brighter settings. i mostly use the dimmer setting so i dont go blind. noise persists in other resolutions. my ref. rate is 60 . wtf is the problem ?? EIIIRRRR

That's weird. Considering a monitor has no moving parts, I've never seen one make noise.

If its still under warranty, just RMA it.

many electronics make noises, especially tv's . its very very quiet and almost unnoticeable, but once u hear it, itll drive u up the wall ! its a very hi pitched buzz

An LCD making HF noise... That is fucked. If I remember correctly, TV's and older monitors emit HF as a product of the cycling electron gun, which generates the screen image. I specifically bought an LCD so's I didn't have to hear the 15kHz tone all fucking day.

I have heard of capacitors squealing because of high frequency charge/discharge.

Whatever it is 47, its probably embedded in nature. I don't think there will be a fix.... Maybe at/with the store/repairman, but not likely; given how electronics are manufactured these days, they will probably throw away the internal electronics and replace them without even testing it. This leads to your warranty, which hopefully covers this shit..

If not, tell them your girlfriend is experiencing hearing aid problems because of the HF. Make some shit up. lol

Thats what I would do.

its probably due to your sub-par gypsy power you have supplying your house.

He steals power from the neighbour three houses down. He buried sixteen extension cords to get it done.

are they making u pay for shipping? i had some bad luck with two different samsung's acting up, one I exchanged real quick at the store I bought cause it was a refurb, the other one dealt with samsung directly, was cool they needed a credit card # for backup, but they sent me the new monitor on their dime first, and all i had to do was put the old one in the box they sent the replacement in for UPS to pick up the next day, good customer service...

I'm pretty sure I said not to get Acer, but you were so excited of the great deal you got from Canada Computers that you ignored my warnings... Acer monitors rank way below shit from a walrus, but slightly above Joe_Scott and CBear.

great deal my left nut. $350 for a 24" . i just loved the monitor, the picture is insane. apparently the squealing lcd is a common problem, u just havent heard it yet and once u do hear it, ull always head it. it only happens when u run LCD in reduced brightness, otherwise ull never have that problem.

"The source of the problem appears to be components in the electronic circuit which controls the brightness of the CFL bulb that lights most LCD monitors"

edit: im reading up on this issue and many people seem to have it. samsungs, LGs, all that shit. i used to work in a electronic repair shop back in the day and ill tell u this: different covers, same guts, ALL OF IT ! same 6 yr old kid in Taiwan makes samsung, sony, acer, benq. fucking cheap capacitors !
