What platform did you play it on...
On PC...
Level design is simple. If they removed the textures I'm sure the majority would be 7 boxes plus entities.
Shooting control is annoying. Enough with the over the shoulder view. The special abilities could be a bit more streamlined, but what can you do.
Everything all in one button is annoying. I want my run button to be different than my cover button.
Story and customization is great. I've never played ME1, but it always seems like a requirement for ME2, and I like that.
Graphics are... alright.. the character animations are spot on, but the level design takes me out of it.

I'm enjoying it as well Ape... much different than the first Mass Effect, but I can't really argue with it... I like all the upgrades and shit, the shooting controls are fine leroy.

h no ! Another set of waist high obstacles, could it mean another round of enemies? Yup."
The lack of an inventory really bothered me, I have a long standing love of inventories and the cool stuff I have collected for them.
But the story was spot on, and I truly believe the future of gaming lies in a movie that you get to play a staring role in. Like the movie of your life, only without the bs job, and more aliens.

and if you wanna play a game which is like a movie, play Uncharted 2 for PS3 if you can... the single player is amazing

still playing. I love it. Its like watching a good movie or reading a good book. Playing this game purely for the story line and the different routes you can take based on your saved game file from mass effect 1. Oh and they ported the game from xbox properly this time so all the textures actually look good on pc. :)

I think the level design is a function of the intended platform, IE console. I have nothing against my console brethren, but game dev's have to make certain sacrifices and typically level design is one.
on PC you can ramp it up, triangles, draw distance, all configurable based on the hardware, consoles don't have that...

i would recomend mass effect 1 to anyone. if your a fan of bioware style RPG then i wouldnt me2. it plays like a shity third person shooter and the fucking cover/jump/sprint/pick shit up button that is spacebar got me killed more times than i can count its one of those games that is hard and frustrateing not because of smart AI or lack of health (you have regenerating health and sheilds) but because the controls suck ass
