Mapping Collaboration

A snowy map with a river running through it creating a valley. giant bridge spaning across the valley and many old snow covered buildings making a villiage. (think old abandoned yukon gold rush town). make it snowing out or perhaps just give the level a slight fog (or both).

T's are holding hostages in the town, and ct's approach from the woods on the opposite side of the valley. We could create lots of paths and make the area really hilly (to set up some opportunities for medium range combat) but the valley and giant bridge in the middle would create some huge sightlines for sniping.

This would be a pretty large map, with lots of opportunities for us to make trench systems, interconnected houses (like westwood/outlaws), very cool enviromental details (because of the winter/arctic theme), etc.


It would be a huge project but when done it could be a classic pub map with the TD communities name stamped on it =p

Who's interested in this? we need mappers, texture artists, and lots of custom models.

Thats a pretty ambitious project 68. The problems with a valley and huge sight lines would be lag, would be very difficult to optimize something like this.

Im a pretty good modeler for assets only problem is i use autodesk maya and i still cant figure out how to export to hammer. but i could do some asset work in xsi, prop was telling me it is a very simple prossess to export for hammer. also i can do texture work but i dont know hammer so mainly for the assets i could create. il play around with it this weekend and let you know

just so you know, there is a couple of maps out there that do look like you've described.. I can't remember their onames.. and there is an AS map that looks like that..

de_deer_hunter or some shit.. river running through the middle etc..

Also if you can export to 3ds, obj or something else I can compile for you as long as the uv maps export. The biggest fuck up with exporting to smd is collision model fuckups, you have to assign smoothing groups to each convex section, otherwise it lumps the whole model into collision. I jave made some cool little props using khed

It's a breeze to export to smd, it's not overly powerful, sometimes I model in xsi then export to khed because it's so damn easy and intuitive for uv mapping. xsi is awesome but sometimes overly powerful for hl2 props.

With all the mappers in TD working together, we could all team up and make the stores for the map (constraining to a default store size) and all the stores could be added into a giant mall map, only for beast computers to run haha
