There are 3 main items that can destroy gates
IEDs
Biofuel
Ethanol
according to les internet, whichever weapon we use, we’re gonna need a lot of it (at least 100 of any one thing to take on even a small base).
So before any assault a serious effort has to be made to assemble the required materials.
However, all 3 are derived using different methods:
to craft IEDs: landmine + cloth
to craft a landmine: gunpowder + metal shard + metal sheet
to craft gunpowder: charcoal + fertilizer
IEDs are most efficient at blowing shit up (need less of them), but are the most resource intensive. Metal sheets used to craft landmines take away from sheets we need to keep the base operating (13 sheets/day atm). And fertilizer can’t be crafted…. and from what I understand, we’re not in the best location for fertilizer farming. So any we do find is usually by accident.
If this is the path we want to choose, we’ll need to start making dedicated loot runs to the local farm and stack fertilizer.
To craft biofuel: animal fat + empty bottle
This is by far the simplest to make, however it requires that we go into the forest and hunt. Good thing our base is in a forest! This may actually be the least labor intensive activity for us. It is also economical, because all you really need is a bow and a satchel, the forest provides lots of “wooden sticks” which can be crafted into arrows, and remember that you can recover at least 1 arrow from a dead animal/zambie. 47 saw how awesome a bow is last night. It is quiet, effective, and if you get ganked you’ve not lost anything of value.
Biofuel also powers our cars. So there’s a double utility there.
To craft ethanol: corn, purified water, yeast
To craft: yeast: flower (from grown wheat) + water + sugar
Probably the safest to craft, most components are grown in-house. When a plant grows, it gives 2 seeds back, so we’ll never run out of planting materials.
Our dew collector will not be enough to supply demand, so we’ll need to do bottle runs to the nearest lake or water source, but this means you can do a naked run and without fearing of losing shit.
One thing to note about farming, the plants yield a return once every 12 hours or so IF fertilizer is used. Without fertilizer it takes a bit longer (48 hours I read? Could be less). However, 1 fertilizer bag provides coverage for a lot of plants, so it’s use is very economical and won’t require that much sacks compared to crafting gunpowder.
One alternative is to build a secluded “farming base” up in the forest. Check up on it once or twice a day to collect/plant and keep nothing else of value. Even if someone does raid it, at worst they’ll nab 1 cycle of crops.
TLDR: collect the following shit whenever you can if you want to make:
IEDs: scrap metal, metal sheet, fertilizer, wooden sticks, cloth + make loot runs to farms
BIOFUEL: hunt animals, collect water bottles
ETHANOL: sugar packets, water bottles, do water-filling runs to lake + partake in the management of the growing crop
