Looking to buy a headset

I've seen a lot of people use that, is the mic any good because I've heard that it has some problems.

I've used:

  • Sennheiser
  • Astro
  • Steel Series
Each individually are extremely well made products/brands.
Sennheiser has a ton of different price points that they sell headsets at and each headset has great sound.
Astro's range from 250-400, they are Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound in a headset. (aka Beast Mode) They are what I'm using currently and I probably will not go back to any other headset on the market. They come with SPDIF input, Mix Amp, Analog Inputs, USB Inputs, etc.
As for Steel Series they are probably the most well-rounded headset available. They aren't cheap but they aren't expensive. Sound quality is good and they are decently strong. Mine lasted a good two/three years.

whatever u get, dont get some wireless headphone shit like I did....so fail :why:

Quoted for truth.

Wireless is the WORST way to go for headsets and mice for gaming. You can get away with a wireless keyboard over those.

Don't mean to rub it in, TurboTaco. It's the truth. :P

If you use search, you will find similar topic this year. I don't think that situation changed significantly.
Finally I bought Roccat Kave, they are also real 5.1 headset and 3D sound is superb. Paid 80$ on sale.

I've been rocking a Sennheiser PC 330 GAME for about two years. Great mic, great sound. Great cord length and the volume control is on the ear-piece not some random spot on the cord. I love them, way better than the RAZER set I had before. They run about 100$ right now.

Just a note, they are supra-aural, so they sit on your ears, not around like cirum-aural. If you have ear piercings this is not the way to go as they will hurt.

I'm New Here
I'd like not to spend over $150, if I could get suggestions that would be awesome.
To be absolutely honest, when it comes to headphones, I would stay away from the "gaming headphone" gimmick. Gaming headsets put priority on trying to come out with some new design or feature that will win over all the competition.. e.g., the new "real" 7.1 surround sound headsets that feature several miniature speakers that simulate surround sound - complete waste of money with poor sound quality and terrible bass. Gaming headsets are not the best headsets for sound quality and although I know some of you guys may disagree, you can get 10x the quality by investing that same ammount of money in a pair of normal headphones which offer much better sound quality and then adding a boom mic or other sort of attachable mic so you can use them for gaming. I made that choice and couldn't be happier. The other positive side is that gaming headphones aren't that great for listening to music, while non-gaming headphones can be used to both games and music.
As someone mentioned above, I would go with Sennheiser, great quality. Or you can get the headphones I got which I absolutely love, and so do many others, the Audio Technica ATH-M50s. They have absolutely the best sound quality I have ever heard, and you can truly appreciate HD music with these, aside from hear every thing from heavy gunfire to a pin dropping in video games,

Thanks for all the feedback! I've got a few follow-up questions to ask.

First: Steel series siberia v2 - Right now my biggest concern about these was the price. I was looking at their website and it says they are $89.99 and when I go on ebay I see them for like $35. Now to me that kind of deal seems too good to be true. Second: Are these "real" 5.1 or 7.1? I'm knew to high quality headsets so my knowledge is lacking in this area plus I didn't see it under the description which kinda makes me think not to either.

Sennheiser - I went looking through there headphones and there are a lot of choices. TBH the amount of choice just kinda goes over my head since I really don't know what the good headsets they have are.

Razer - Which ones are good and which ones should I stand clear of. I know they can have a large range in quality between their products.

'real' 5.1/7.1 means each earphone has 5/7 actual physical speakers positioned inside them. If they do not have this, they r simulated digital 5.1/7.1/surround.

Audiophiles will contend that 'real' is superior to digital simulation however it is highly dependant on the quality of the maker.

There are plenty of 'real' headphones that r shit with poor freq. range and weak bass. Same goes for digital too.

I would say quality real 5.1 is all you really need since a lot of games use 5.1 and my experience with 7.1 is hit or miss. Also majority of music is recorded at stereo whih only provides left n right channels. Some movies might provide 7.1 but like i said it can be hit n miss based on my experiences.

Sennheiser PC 330 GAME, as I stated before, is the best value under 150$. The audio quality is fantastic, especially for a gaming headset. It is only stereo though, not 5.1. If you want to spend your entire 150$ budget, try the PC 333D, they are the same headphones but with (virtual) 7.1 surround sound. They are 142 USD on amazon.com, but 206 CAD on amazon.ca. Assuming shipping isn't retarded expensive you can buy them for around your budget on .com, CAD is worth more than USD right now.

Razer: stay away. They are not worth the cost, stick with Sennheiser if you want a gaming headset. I cannot speak for SteelSeries, Astro or Zalman which have also been recommended. Never used them.

The Sennheiser PC 160, 150, and 136 (Better Quality to Lower Quality) are pretty decent gaming headsets. I used those series in my early 1.6 competitive days. They served well and I never had any issues with them.
