So, this morning I got up at 6 AM so I could get ready for my job interview at 10. I was applying for an IT support job with the government with their summer program. I have had great correspondence with these people and we were all looking forward to meeting each other.
So I get up, do a quick workout, hop in the shower *pauses for SJ's fappage*, and have some breakfast. This job is in the very south end of the city, and since I live in the north end I checked the bus schedule and was obviously ecstatic to see that my bus ride to this place would be about an hour long. I hop on the bus at 8:30, wait 20 minutes for my transfer at Confederation College and hop on my next bus down to the south end of the city.
I get to this place about 9:30, so I pause to have a smoke before walking in and telling the receptionist that I am here for my 10AM appointment. As I am doing this, the IT Support Manager happens to walk into the lobby, so I introduce myself and we chit chat for a couple of minutes. She asks me to wait outside the conference room while she goes in to prep the interview panel. I read the recap of Game 6 on the front page of the Chronicle (Staal is from Thunder Bay so it is big news here) as I wait to be called in.
Finally I am called into this large boardroom, where two people sit with their interview forms and the manager for northern area is on the line on a teleconference phone. We shoot the shit for a minute, then the regional manager begins to describe the scope and purpose of this branch of Government. Smiles all around. I am also happy because the male interviewer is wearing a FOX hat, and street clothes. I'm thinking 'sweet I don't have to buy any office clothes for this job'.
Then it is time to start the interview, and the local manager says 'Okay, Keeripes!, let's just quickly get through this obligatory nonsense for eligibility'. I says to 'er I says 'Alrighty!'. She says that the position is available to students, and proceeds to ask 'Okay... First question.... Are you between the ages of 18 and 24?'
18 and 24?
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-
I failed the first question of my job interview. I says 'No, I am 25.' The male interviewer drops his head in a smile, and the local manager looks up at the ceiling with an exasperated look on her face.
Please note that when I filled out the form for the program it asked if I was between the ages of 18 and 24, and I responded NO. I submitted this form in May.
'I am so sorry', she says, 'this is the third time this has happened, I should have asked you this before you came down here'.
By this time I am almost laughing out loud. Not at her, but at the ridiculous idiosyncrasies of the government application process. 'Make sure you fill out this form ACCURATELY, because we will not read it'
So then I took the hour long bus ride home.
TLDR: My job interview lasted 7 minutes, and I failed the first question.
EDITED so that it doesn't inadvertently show up on google. :)
