ISP help

I am currently staying in Brampton, and was wondering if anyone knows of any good ISP other than bell or rogers.

I'd rather die than go with Bell again... Rogers I was with before and they had reliable service, but I'm wondering if there are any cheaper alternatives as I killed the d/l limit every month and ended up paying a fortune :(

I want to find something reliable before BF3 is out!!!

Teksavvy should have you covered.
I'd suggest cable over DSL, but beggars can't be chooser's

Been using the unlimited plan, and I'm lovin' it

Teksavvy is cheaper but it runs using Bell's network. If you already have problems with Bell, Teksavvy isn't going to fix them.

MLPPP with teksavvy is good. I have 2 connections, 1 is just dry loop for $60 a month. Speeds are 10Mbps so 1 Meg/sec. Pretty solid and I also had problems with bell but I'm all good now.

My problem with bell was customer service. After the last experience I had with them, I will never agaan deal with that shit fest.

I plan on getting the cable service. I had a 80 gig cap with Rogers at the time I had the service, and was paying about 125$ every month on a 60$ service, because I kept passing the set limit.

This sold me on Teksavvy as much as anything else! I hate O'Leary; greedy son of a bitch got told by teksavvy's spokesman!

At the moment the most balanced and best ISP for most of Canada* is Teksavvy. Its not got great ^/v rates (I think 5m / 800k) but for the price those rates and the fact unlimited useage and not have to worry about caps is amazing all for 40$ (for DSL).

The same thing from Rogers and Bell I think are roughly in the high $50's and $60's and they also throttle.
(which is funny because its been shown that Rogers and Bell sell 40GB of data to each other for under $5 and still turn profit.)

All in all I say that Teksavvy is one of the few ISP's I trust and respect even though, when considering the rest of the world and their internet, we are still worse then Rwanda's ISP for price and service received.

edit: Maybe im just a bitter person at Canadian ISP's but for a 1st world country we are overcharged by Rogers and Bell by a minimum of about 500% up to, in cases, 6000% a GB it is just sad, not because of the profit, but because that is marked up higher then in 3rd world countries.

The cost of sending 1GB of Data, according to... oh I forget the university or study, but shows it costs roughly 3 cents per 1GB of data.
Whole story here: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news...ir-price-for-internet-service/article1890596/

Using teksavvy cable 10meg/0.5meg connection 300GB a month bandwidth, no evidence of throttling that I have seen, torrents always max out and often ones with strong seeders (example Ubuntu.iso) will go over my advertised connection speed maybe up to 25meg.... it's about $42 a month tax included. Unfortunatly, their cable is oversold in Toronto right now, so no new customers for the time being, but I would definitely recommend anyone switch as soon as they can.

For phone, I am using freephoneline.ca, you pay to port your number for $20 although not required, and you can pay them for a per-configured ATA or buy one from canada computers for about $50, that you can hook your regular telephone system into it, long distance is pretty cheap too if you need it. I know I am saving at least $20-30 a month doing this.

And some more evidence I stumbled across today:

This is from my Teksavvy line. I get consistent packet loss around 5pm-9pm and can go as late as 1am.

Teksavvy Internet is great for alot of things, but gaming is not one of them.

Cock I'd blame a congested cable network over teksavvy. Cable BW is shared from what I understand, and 5-9pm is when everyone is home from work streaming porn.
my buddy has 15Mb/s cable down here and he can't hit 1Mb/s during those hours.

Oh I agree drugs, but here's the kicker. I had a Rogers modem along side my Teksavvy modem, any time Teksavvy acted up I used to just switch over to the rogers modem and everything was peachy. So I'm pretty sure it's Rogers fucking with Teksavvy but there's no way to tell.

I'm with Teksavvy because I can't stand this duopoly we have in Canada. I'm sick of Bell and Rogers telling me they need more money for something that costs them pennies. So I happily use Teksavvy even though I can really game on it.

My problem with bell was customer service. After the last experience I had with them, I will never agaan deal with that shit fest.

I hate to tell you this but Bell's not the only company in the world that outsources their CS department. The standards for CS everywhere have fallen dramatically; so much so in fact that U.S. companies are now closing overseas offices to bring that work back and be able to enforce a standard that is acceptable here. What I'm trying to say is you're best off getting internet that works well enough not to require any support.

I've been using Bell DSL for years and never had any speed dropping or downtime problems. They also have a support line that connects you directly to a Canadian tech who actually knows what the fuck is going on and can fix a problem without giving you the tired old "did you try resetting your modem?" horseshit they feed the noobs with. When you get someone on the horn they're willing to give you service, you just have to ask them in a way you'd like to be asked if you were dealing with fuckheads on the phone all day long.
