I've fucking had it with Cogeco, always down now (almost once a day, over the last few months) and ever since getting Cogeco Home Phone (we also have tv+internet), they gave me some new piece of shit modem that receives "updates" (AKA SPEED LIMITING) and it's all gone to complete fucking hell.

I pay $45 for the internet alone, and that only gets me:

- 60GB up/down per month
- ~1.6MB/s (MEGABYTES, fuck megabites scam-advertising)
- 0.13MB/s (same as above, scam, yadda yadda)

WHAT THE FUCK.

What you guys/gals use? From who? How much? Speeds/caps per month?

I live in Oakville, HELP ME OUT!!!!!! PLEASE! THank yoU!

Taksavvy DSL Premium
5Mbps down 800Kbps up
200GB down/up per month they calculate the data in 2 month, so say you went 250GB first month, and you were at 150GB the next month, you won't have to pay for the over usage on the 50GB.

Real speed at 4Mbps down 650Kbps up
$31.95/Month

They also offer cable too, but not sure if they cover your area.

I've tried them once before, and I cancelled because the motherfucker that came to install wanted like $300... is that shit right? Does it cost that much to install, buy a modem, and set up? Gimmie more details (on the start up cost - as if I wanted to start today).

Thanks a ton Hinouchi!

Ouch $300? tell them to fuck a cow lol. Proply some jackass Bell tech scaring you away from Teksavvy. For DSL I don't think you need to pay that much to setup. Unless you really really really need lots of works done in your house. Like you don't even have a copper line to your house and they need to connect a new line and rewrite your whole freaking house lol and install few phone jack.

For sure phone jack install is like $100 each. Modem you can get your own or buy one from them. Modem set up, is all up to you haha but it's easy, or just call them up and they will walk you through it. (BEST customer service EVER)

There's no activation fee, so you just pay 31.99 + HST straight up.

Wow... I'm phoning next week. The speeds are the f'n same as Cogeco, and bigger cap, for cheaper... I'm in. You're most likely right that it must been some BELL guy (the guy was actually at my house, and I told him go fuck himself for that price) lol

Also, your speed quotes - 4Mbps down. Does that mean 4 megaBYTES (MB) or 4 megaBITES-scam-cogeco-bullshit-advertising-really-you-gotta-divide-by-8-to-get-the-real-speed MB ?

Most company use Megabits, Mb = Megabits, MB = Megabytes

So it should be 0.4Megabytes per second for Teksavvy, so half of your speed right now? For Premium dsl, they use fastpath routing, so your ping should be better in gaming.

Teksavvy would have 1Megabytes connection, but "Hell" aka Bell won't give it to them to resell.

Even if you have 1MEgabytes connection, that 60GB bandwidth is such are bottleneck, I almost go through that EVERY month with my DSL lol ...

Kind of like driving a Ferrari with half a tank of gas, you won't get too far. XD

I am with Rogers overpaying big fucking time, BJ your the kind of guy your going to like teksavvy man, if your into p2p at all or just outta principle, look into MLPP

http://mlppp.teksavvy.com/index_en.html

you can still use mlppp with a single link.

It's intended use is bonding dsl lines together to make a fatter connections (2 x 5mb/800kbps) becomes 10/1.6, the other side effect is that it changes the protocol making bell's deep packet inspection boxes useless, therefore, you have an unfiltered connection to the internet. My only buyer beware with them is that bell manages your physical copper and can arbitrarily put you on a shittier line, where you get stuck with like 1.6mb. That is the reason I left, other then that I whole heartedly recommend this company. Their phone is a genuine bell line too.

5mb line if running perfect is going to get you 500KB/s download, 100KB/s upload, and your in game pings will blow cable out of the water.

Yeah man, DSL resellers are where it's at.

I slit my wrists every day here in london where the only ISP I can get in my building is Rogers. I'm 4.7kms from Bell's closest CO so I sync at 1.7megabits instead of the purchased 5.

Wow sounds crappy. I'm rocking a 22Mb/s (about 2.6 MB per sec) down with .7Mb/s (just about next to nothing) up no usage cap. Runs me $60 per month (paying for premium).

Ya see teksavvy is a little slow for me..... Here now (@ cogeco, because I have tv/phone as well), my net runs at 14Mb/s down and 1Mb/s up (or for the real-world-non-bullshit-people, it's 1.6MB/s down and 0.12 MB/s up).

I don't think I'll be letting go of that speed, especially when I torrent a lot... I'm not down with letting downloads go for hours on end :/

FACK.

heres the thing the difference on a dvd rip is like 5 minutes or 10 minutes on dsl vs cable, and with teksavvy dsl and mlppp, you will get the full speed possible on your torrents. you tube and shit as well nothing really uses that high speed potential on cable. when my dsl was good i never had lag at all on my youtube now with rogers all the time

in conclusion teksavvy dsl+mlppp is paradise for p2p

Don't mean to throw gas on the fire but I'm on rogers and I don't get throttled at all for torrents, although I mainly stick to usenet.
