I'm disappointed...

This has been really bothering me for the past few days and I just need to post it on here so that maybe the people who feel that racism is OK get a reality check.

Racism is everywhere, no doubt, and is much more prevalent online where people can hide behind their screens and say whatever they want without having to face someone. I've been seeing it on the Toronto CS:GO server and it really makes me shake my head.

A few days ago I'm playing as I do every night and notice there are some TD members on as well. They start talking about things like "I really had to take a sh*t and walk into the bathroom and all the stalls were taken, and then one stall opens and a turban comes out, then the next one opens and another turban comes out and then I say f*ck that I'm not going in there", followed by other comments like "ahh yes Canada, home of the asians and browns". It's sad that these are clan members encouraging each other by laughing at the remarks, adding to them, not thinking twice. News flash, half the people on the server at that time were either asian, brown or black. One person chirped in and said 'Well that's only slightly racist..." I'm not going to name names and single anyone out, that's not what this is about, so don't bother asking. You know who you are.

That's not the first time I've heard that from people on our server, TD members and non TD members. It really makes me question why I put in my application and makes me consider withdrawing it. I keep being told how TD is this big family and all, and to socialize and mingle. Well, to be honest, people like that are not people I wish to associate myself with.

I ask that the admins step it up and really pay attention to this kind of behaviour, and don't encourage it by laughing or adding to it. I'm white, catholic, and I married a muslim girl who was born and raised in Canada to parents from Africa with Indian heritage. My daughter is a mix of cultures and we decided to raise her Muslim as I'm not very active in my religion. Are you haters going to judge my 2 year old? Are you going to call her names?

It's 2014, racism is not OK anymore, and we can all help by stepping up and not accepting it on our server. I spend every night on the Toronto Darkly server, I look forward to coming home from work, and when all of life's chores are done going to my PC and playing my favourite game with some really awesome people. It really ruins it when stuff like this happens.

Now I said I wouldn't single anyone out, but I lied, I do need to single someone out: td|35mm (mikaHacky). I am very proud to say that this guy does not accept racism and is an advocate about what I'm talking about. I have personally been online over a dozen times when he has warned, kicked or banned racist players and has a zero tolerance policy, never laughing, encouraging or promoting any sort of behaviour. My hat goes off to you 35, we need more people like you in the world.

That's my rant, I really don't want to start any crap but it needed to be said. Now off to the server for some frags...

Respect man, There is to much hate and someone even sent me a message about it and I took a break from the forums honestly. I enjoy playing on the servers. Rules wise there is too much hate. Maim not taking the post seriously. :rip:

I WAS SERIOUS. Gave him kudos for coming out and saying it out loud.

I think the issue is that people nowadays see racism as a form of joking around, and not really seriously. You see people joking about pakis all the time on the forums, but I doubt that they mean to segregate and hate. Nonetheless, it's still really bad to use racism for any reason..

Oi, don't lump us all together. I hate racism in any form and personally instaban anyone who does it on the TF2 servers.

Slawek
I have a lot of respect for you for calling it out. Keep your head up, man =)

Someone was racist to you via PM on the forums? If that is the case, I want to know who and what they said. :waiting:

That is being racist right there. Instead of saying some Americans you Americans as a whole and that is mighty disrespectful to my people. Yes America is crap right now, but at one point in time it was the most powerful of nations. Please have some respect and decency for the tread.

If you want to defend the seriousness and composure of this thread, the least you can do is not participate in the very arguments that undermine it. Respect Slawek's post.
I think that you might have misunderstood me. I do respect the content of Slawek's post, sincerely. It was my intention to call out Swan's post for singling out Americans. It's one thing to have pride in your country (in his case, Canada), but that post crossed the line for me into something else.

Do we really need this type of talk/flame on a thread as serious as this one, guys? Respect OP and at least keep it to a minimum.
I completely agree, man. Though it is a (usually) mature server, that shouldn't mean racism is acceptable.

You have to understand I come from a place where you never see people wearing turbans. Minnesota has a large muslim population, but traditional garbs are rarely seen. Using the two mens turbans as a descriptive for them as people, was not meant to be HATEFUL. And to be fair, REGARDLESS OF WHO WAS IN THAT BATHROOM IT WAS FILTHY(I am sure everyone contributes to that, not just one religion or race) hence why the whole situation.

Being incredibly uncomfortable with a new situation/environment/culture does not = hate.

Slawek, I understand your point and agree it was tasteless what I said, I should have picked my words more carefully. However don't make it out like I was going off on some muslim racist rant, because I wasn't. Merely recounting YYZ's FILTHY conditions, and my surprise at seeing turbans so frequently in Canada. Being uncomfortable with new cultural experiences =/= being a racist.

This. Although I can see why my comment was tasteless, there was no hate in it, no racist rhetoric.
