i just finished installing windows 7, and i went to run l4d2... itll start up, go through the valve screen, go through the video for the game, begin to load the main page and then make an error sound, shut down leaving me with no window pop up or anything. i checked my firewall shit, i dont have anything blocking the game. i dont understand whats going on.
*super. fucking. frustrated.*

EDIT: found out its called CTD.... crash to desktop...

This is why I'm sticking to WIndows XP. When they introduce a new OS after Windows 7, I'll then switch to Windows 7 :)

L4D2 runs correctly for me in Win7 Ultimate x64. I get constant CTD in CSS though, so it seems to be general instability with the Win7 platform.

I would try redownloading L4D2.

I gave my cousin (SonDooby) Win7 Ult. 64-bit and it does this for him too... he blames me lol

I'd have to say to run in "Compatability mode" or Vista-mode... But, whatever works...

Nah, just tell him to uninstall and reinstall. I ran win7 64bit ultimate too and everything is fine for me now. (or at least hope...)

I would never upgrade an OS. you get stuck with alot of garbage that you were trying to get rid of in the first place. ALWAYS format and fresh install or else you aren't getting everything you could out of a new OS.

valve games install different files based on your os so if you do a straight upgrade theres a good chance they wont work i sugest do a clean formate. i know that vista has a different way of writeing to reg than xp so nothing works after an upgrade very well im not sure how 7 dose

or just reformat. And fuck 'upgrading', torrent that bad boy!

I agree with everyone.... upgrading causes a lot of problems, the new OS has to "assume" a lot of none window applications like "steam" are programed a certain way... back up what u need and do a clean install... will help avoid lots o problems..

Cheers,

i typically buy a new harddrive every 1-2 years, they wear out and after a certain point its just better to buy new and use the old one for storage purposes.
