Long story short I took my wifes laptop into best buy under warranty to get the screen fixed. Cosmetic (the plastic) not the actuall screen. For some reason the replaced the hdd and tried to say the old one was corrupt. In bitching they gave us a free full install (not upgrade) of windows 7. Ok not so short

Its now installed on her laptop. So my question is can I get this to work on my pc that I'm running XP still cause I hated vista? And what's with the no update crap? Ive installed my xp disk on a million pcs and never had a problem but I don't want to install it on here and cause a problem with her laptop. Can I install it and fake validate somehow? Just curious on what you guys have done or know?

Ummm ... since we are talking about fake ones ... why don't you just get a ... fake one and install it? :)

If you will try and re-activate that key on another machine it will not validate. I tried that with an original copy and it didn't validate.

You might get away by calling at MS and tell them you had problems with your computer and had to reinstall and they will most probably give you a new code to activate (code not KEY).
Not sure though if the copy from the laptop will deactivate or not. On Windows XP you could get away with this ... don't know about Win7

Xp cannot be upgraded to 7 because they're way to different. Concequently, you cannot use an installed version to install on another pc.

both my cds are full xp and full 7 cds. I did not purchase upgrade cds so the current system has no effect

Oh, well then if you have a Windows 7 cd, with a windows 7 key. Insert the cd and install man lol

no the problem is i had to use it on her laptop and im affraid that if i put it on my pc to upgrade out of xp it will cause problems with hers or i wont be able to validate it

You're corrct.

1 ) No updating XP, this would be a full wipe

2 ) The cd key used for your wife's computer will NOT be available for your computer, hence you use the validator I posted in Turbo Taco's thread. Here's the link:

Just installed windows 7 but told it not to automatically validate now do i run that programs? Gotta run out and get some grub with the wife and download steam and css and all that garbage so just let me know hopeully i can get on tonight and play some css

Yes, open the program, choose the make of your laptop (HP, or Toshiba etc. whatever it is). Click install. It will disappear for a few minutes, then come back and ask you to restart. Once you restart, you'll be 100% activated.
