How to safely stop windows from updating.

So my laptop has been on update 12 of 18 for the past 2 hours. I hope someone here knows what I can do without leaving my computer on all night then taking it in to get looked at.

EDIT: Solved problem. Har restarted my computer started in safe mode. Turned off. Re-booted and got it to work. I was too scared because last time I hard restarted with the same problem on another computer it fucked up and stopped working.

Windows Update always creates restore points anyway. Can always restore to that save point if stuff goes bad.
