How do I get rid of the "Fire in the hole" sound?

the old solution in the sticky no longer works. is it just outdated or some anti-hax shit?

Why would you want to rid yourself of that?

Its what CS is isn't it?

To disable this, type in your command console "ignorerad" without the commas. Be warned, this command is blocked/disabled on many many servers and may not/will not work on sv_pure 1/2 servers. Depends on the current build. There is a new mod going around but it also does not work with sv 1 and 2.

Sorry, if I owned CS:S I'd spend more time on it. Someone...want to rattle me a copy? ^^''

You can always just try deleting the sound file. Create a blank text file with the same name and extension. Should work, have not tested.

there is no sound file, thats why putting a blank one there used to work. still does for me, don't know why you guys cant get it.

Must find new solution!!!!!!
Is that one not working? I'll do a little more research, there are files that claim to disable it but I don't want to suggest anyone download anything outside of Steam's files.

There's no sound file, and even if it was, since its part of the CS:S in whole, when the next source update comes (which is almost weakly), it will check your files for integrity but when a variance appears in size or file contents, it will delete it and re-download a new copy. The wonders of Steam. This only works on core game files.

That's because you have idiots on the server. Here's a hammer, go cave some skulls in.

Probably because you're files are not being fragmented in a way a full scan by Steam will not detect the variance.
i'm not even sure why anyone wants to get rid of it in the first place
Because you have Russian Script Kiddies and idiots ruining what used to be a great game that was found in nearly every computer.

I miss CS 1.5.

@ drugz: i even tried reinstalling the fix, no workie :( i gotta find a solution, shits unplayable, i tried, and couldnt handle the epic spam. 16 players on team, 4 nades each = 64 "fireinthehole"s per round. 2.5 min = 150 seconds. thats one fireinthehole every 2.3 seconds. the sound is about 2 seconds long, so in theory, its fucking constant spam

1 ) Actually, yes, there are. It's not "part of the CS:S in whole", whatever that means.
2 ) To access said files, you need a program to view them, since they are (rather cheekily) hidden. You can use something like GCF-Scape to view them.
3 ) When Steam verifies your game files' integrity, who's to say whether it plays every single sound file, checks every player model, every gun model, all maps etc. for integrity? I would think something that takes seconds on an SSD, and a mere minute or two on a HDD would check for just names of files that should be there, and small files that needed to play like config.cfg, clientregistry.blob (I think is the name) etc. So, replacing the file with a blank file of the same name should work nicely.
4 ) Use #2 and replace said gay file, once you find it. Where, exactly, that file is I don't know and don't care.
5 ) I know this because I used to use GCF-Scape to decompile original CS maps to see how their mappers mapped, so I could learn by example.

Enjoy, and hope you guys who hate the noise sort out a fix. Perhaps when I have some time this weekend, hopefully, I can test and verify and post my results.

Cheers.

You can use GCF-Scape, but remember to keep this in normal, plain English. I really doubt people will want to go through all that trouble to patch a problem that can easily be fixed (used to) with a console command.

1. )When I was referring to Sound Files, I meant a .wav or .ogg inside the CS:S folder, NOT within a GCF.
2. )I'm fairly certain they have enough crap downloaded that they wouldn't want to download a moderate program for one use.
3. )Are you absolutely certain without a reasonable doubt sure that's how it works? If not, don't assume, Steam was unpredictable before, it can easily do the same again. It also varies depending on rigs.
4. )Derp.
5. )I've used it twice to extract music from SWAT 4 and another game that eludes me, its sort of tricky to get a full file and not a blank one.

I'm not challenging what you type, I'm only supplementing it. It can work, but since its not a preferred fix, I would recommend great care as if you end up corrupting something vital, you'll have to re-download the entire GCF.

What I could recommend for those that want to try it is to COPY the entire GCF file and play around with it, swapping the clean one with the new one and hoping Steam doesn't detect the variance and secondly, works without breaking the game.

Replacing/modifying one GFC file will not break anything. Yes, like you said, take a copy, slam it on your desktop and you're good.
And no, no one's certain beyond a reasonable doubt, but why should you have to be? Given the amount of time it takes to verify your game files (what, 30 seconds?) you think it's gonna go through thousands of files, let alone on a shitty Windows platform? LOL

the console should be spewing up some shit that will give us an idea what's going on, try taking a screenshot of that while this is going on.

Im just curious, but you put that sound scripts file in your scripts folder right?
but did you make a blank text file in your /sounds/radio folder and rename it ro ct_fireinhole.wav??

Because if you're not certain, any doubt and it will break.

From experience and 30 seconds is a terrible lie. TF2 takes up to 10 minutes.

+1 Didn't think of this. XD
I found a solution!
