Headphone Help

Ok, so here's the issue

I was given a new pair of headphones from a buddy who had an extra pair (new in box):

Now on to the problem

When I play with the old headphones, everything is perfect. I head primarily guns/voices/footsteps, and then light sounds of the background wind + mics.

When I play with the new headphones, I head like 80% wind and the remaining 20% is left dividing the actual important game sounds.

WTF is that? Literally was just unplug and plug, and when I put the old ones back in, its perfect again.

If anyone has any idea on wtf is causing that.. me love you longtime.

The old headphones I'm using are so old, that there is literally no foam padding left on them (about 8 years of gaming).

Ps. The new headphones sound amazing when playing music on my desktop, so it's not an issue of them being defective or anything.

Are the new headphones 5.1 (Surround sound)? Are there more than one headphone plug, or is it USB?

When you plug the new pair of headphones in, maybe you should head over to control panel->Sound->and run the little "setup", it will ensure it's playing just left and right channel audio (like front speakers), and not surround nonsense.

I did all of that, and everything is configured for headphones..

just standard headphones, 1 cable and using the same jack on my computer. Also, everything aside from the bg map noise is ultra muffled :(

from trying to config it all.. I actually made my old ones sound even better, but no change in the new ones. I even took away the custom setup I had and nothing?? Everything music related is really crisp though. fuuuu-

They added a new mod to the server recently, if you join CT, you endure a sound debuff, which in turn promotes auto assigning ;)

From my experience, buying gaming headset worth less than $50 is bad. I always save up my money and buy something that will last 4+ years with a good brand name.

Maybe source is fucking audio levels. Check console for some commands... also, doublecheck settings in options, so its set to headphones, not something else... i at a loss right now. I sometimes use my dj headphones for cs (60mm drivers, just one each side) and they sound bomb. All primary sound (footsteps, gunfire, voice).

bj is on the right track. something to do with surround sound, imo. u head some things and not others, must be surround sound options. u sure ur not using the wrong audio-out ????

Nope, everything was configured specifically for headphones. It makes no sense whatsoever that there would be such a fuckup form just switching one for the other.. What makes even less sense is that they are fine for music?

All I can assume is that they are a piece of shit and get rid of them, even though they were free lol.

BTW. Sick headphones for sale, only $30

how many audio-outs do u have in the back of computer? maybe using wrong one meant for surround.

I'll laugh if he have it plugged at the orange port. XD

lol 47, I'm not that noob. I have the standard three on the back and then I have an additional two on the front (line in/out). I've always used the ones on the front when I play. I have my surround sound hooked up into the rear ports, and have it set up to take priority and switch to headphones when I plug something in the front port.

lol, maybe it's because the frequency range on your old HeadPhones was so bad you couldn't hear all the wind and shit. :P

Edit: or that the old headphones don't have much power to them. Making it seem like they prioritize shooting/walking when in reality they can't take all of the sounds at once.

1 - test those headphones on another pc/stereo (not mac, ull be labeled a fag)
2 - try pluging in one of those ports in the back, maybe cock is right, not enough powah !

UPDATE:

I plugged the new headphones into the rear port (switched them with the sound system jack). There was a lot less distortion and wind noise. There was however still a lot more than the old headphones plugged into the front port.

The only thing I can conclude is that the old headphones are weaker, producing less noise total (gunshots are weaker, wind is severely weaker, etc. - even at reasonable volume).

The old ones are 30mm vs the new ones at 40mm. I suppose thats just a lucky bonus that I've gotten used to. The whole problem I guess is in the upgrade, they're too good for what I'm used too (incredible bass range vs. my old ones when listening to music as well)

Its funny because I always assumed CS had the standard noises and the mild level wind, although it seems the detail is higher than I had known.

Correct me if I'm wrong though, I'm assuming the new headphones are fine, and you all have highly distinctive natural sounds (wind, etc) as opposed to just background wind, etc. The new headphones are actually really sick, and have gotten good reviews.

I'm assuming case closed.. and I'm stuck playing with these

LOL, padding died wayyy back.

Ps. If anyone has an old pair of 30mm headphones, please try plugging them in and see if you notice the same thing I did.

(Note: I do not have a dedicated sound card, it's integrated into the motherboard)

Pps. Thank you for everyones input :)
