Did maybe 10 hours of online play... no change from BC2 in terms of overall feel, only now it's even gayer.

Sorry man, but if you claim not to see a difference between BC2 and BF3, you're on crack. Whether you like the game or not, the difference is akin to CS 1.3 and CS:Source = it's pretty big.
In your favour, I will say that playing with someone you know, and with a decent squad will make
monumental differences in your experience. Whether you win or not, you'll have way more support and will have much more fun.
Lastly, unlocking good weapons (which aren't really better than what you already get as a 'stock' player) comes after achieving good play with
other weapons. So no amount of 'Q spamming' will work. Unlocking player levels (your 'x'-star level) means nothing; you must achieve things like number of headshots/kills etc. to achieve other weapons. Therefore, your above point is moot.
