forcing rates

there is talk of forcing rates on to people, which i think is fine for update and cmd rate

but the rate figure, which people want to put at 30000, doesnt work for ALL people

last night with 30K i was still getting 5-10 choke, and would have liked to up it to 40/45 for good measure.

so if its possible, leave "rate" user changable and the rest forced, if anything.

well cant u make it a range 20000-40000 anything lower will get bumped up anything higher will get bumped down?

We might have to be careful about forcing rates though. Last night if I went above 30 and 20 I was choking hard, but my ping was a nice 10 or less. Kept rate around 20-30K. When I put rates at 30K/100/100 my chooke went over 40 and stayed that way until I changed them bck. So IDK what's a fair universal cmd and updaterate.

Those rates can be forced, as well as update rates. There would be no reason to kick someone running 10000 as they would be forced to 20000 anyway.

There are many factors to consider when running the server that has a lot more to do than sv_maxrate and sv_minrate. It is my experience that an sv_maxrate of 25000 is sufficient if everything else is set properly. I suggest everyone read this.

I do agree, all the experts say over 24 players go 66 tick, but for some reason people seem to think 100 has better hit reg, which is not necessarily the case. We ran the server last night and I found I had better reg at 66 when the server was near full, some said they felt 100 was better.

Keep in mind it's not any one thing that makes a server run perfect, it's a combination of things server side as well as some client side tweaks. Last night I had 0 choke and loss playing from Edmonton, my ping was around 60 and my hit reg was better than it ever was on Mahones box.

you are, doesnt work for everyone, which is why it should be user configured.

I *think* it chooses whichever rates are lower, so if pwnion prefers low rates, he is able to keep them, and the server can be set to higher rates. I find the clientfps value more valuable. Lets crank that fucker up, I need cycles to kill you fuckers.

I still haven't quite figured out which rate works best, but im definately down with forcing everyone cmd and update to 100 when they join.

Your choke has nothing to do with rate. If we were running a max rate of 5000 MAYBE, but lets face it no one can pull 40000 or even 25000 on their connection unless you're maybe running on a fiber optic connection to your house. I will be posting info about choke and rates to help people out.

Forcing someone to cmd and update at 100 will cause massive choke for a lot of folks including myself.
