elder scrolls online

I love all things TES, but I'm not sure how I feel about this one. I would be surprised if it was anything special and not just a WOW clone.
Hopefully I get into the closed beta and can make a judgment there like I was able to do with SWTOR.

Seems to have RIFT and GW2 stuff too, so...I really don't think it could be a WoW clone, especially after such a lengthy series with as much lore as is already present and has been for years. Definitely getting :o

The Zenimax marketing team will try very hard to keep this game from looking like WoW, if they don't it will flop.
They do have a wealth of lore to draw on, but so far that's the main selling point. Not quality game play or innovation, "Moving your mouse will make you look around and aim your weapon, you can tap your left click to attack, hold it to power, hold your right click to block, and sprinting crouching and sneaking all play a role." Revolutionary!

This is what swtor did, they had all those star wars fans too sell another sw game to, with way more lore than TES, and they failed to innovate game mechanics. So we ended up with a 200 million dollar sci-fi WoW.

But that's not what makes me skeptical, it's the fact that Bethesda isn't developing this title and guys like Todd Howard are not involved. It's a young studio with little Elder Scrolls experience.

WoW doesn't have crouching or sneaking (for all but one class)...even so, I think it's nice to note that there will be a wacky *who can come up with the oddest class arrangement*, and while yes, the controls aren't innovative, are they usually? Anyway, the controls seem about the same as past Elder Scrolls Games...so...

Possible WoW clone isn't the only possible problem, IMO. How would Megaserver work, and what if it crashes? :3

A game can have crouching and still be similar in mechanics to WoW and the like. I think the character building opportunities are very exciting, if they stay open ended we will see some very interesting classes indeed.

They don't need to reinvent the controls by any means (I'm not hoping for kinect support), the focus should be to take current TES controls and combat feel and improve. They are selling "left click to attack" when they should be telling us that they implemented locational damage so an arrow to the face actually does more damage. It seems they are taking a step back not forward. Notice the combat movement and stagger in the video, or lack thereof. These are staples in an Elder Scrolls combat system and they removed them so you can stand still and click left.

It should play like an FPS, but will be a blur of Guild Wars and Swtor. The Elder Wars: Guild Scrolls 2 Online wont be bad, just not quite TES.
