I agree wholeheartedly. I feel like a cheap whore every time I do it, but our members generally rise to the occasion. I dream at night about a DARKLY where no one has to donate more than $5 or $10 to make ends meet.

You guys only need $100/month for all the servers you guys have? That's a pretty damn good deal. Considering the CSS no awps server is almost always full during primetime (32 players), regulars need only pay $3-$4/month to make that target.

Just outta curiosity, where is that?
I just took a peek at the front page listing tons of full or almost-full TF2 servers so combining all the most popular servers at around 25 players/each, assuming they are regulars, having everyone pitch in a long-term/sustainable $3/month would be more than enough to cover the expenses. (25 players x 6 mostly full servers x $3 each). More than reasonable, considering ESEA charges $7/month.
I saw who made the big donations this month but it may not be fair or realistic to expect the same big donations every month by the same players, right?

Oops, just realized our expense list was posted in the Darkly Member's section which I am not sure whether I am allowed to post publicly (LB or Skd can sticky it up on a general if they want)
Essentially its broken down to this:
1. Dedicated Server - based in TO
2. VPS - forum/site host
3. gameME stats
4. NFO VPS - Chicago Servers
These essentially add up to around $300CDN.
It's pretty easy to suggest that our "regulars" pitch in a few dollars a month to help support the community. We know (DGN) that our community is extensive (over a thousand on our steam page) but a majority of our regulars (i mean heavy regulars) still seldom do anything to chip in. This is due to many reasons including not caring, having money tied up, no knowing about how to donate, not wanting to use paypal (for whatever reason), or other excuses really.
Typically, I believe that 20% of our actual members and regulars consistently help with our donations whereas the other 80% have not donated, donated once, or donate seldomly based on their current situation.
Again, DGN doesn't force membership fees or make our members n regs pay to play. We are a fully non-profit gaming community that uses community support to maintain everything we have established so far.
We want DGN to stick around for a long time and not fall off the grid like so many past gaming clans/communities tend to as years go by. We have been doing a great job, but it is only because of the great community we have established and grown here.
Grand Total of $341/month. Those numbers are outdated as expenses have gone up. And you forgot to add Mumble in that list hehe.
Anyways, currently the donation goal is 250/month and our expenses are 341/month. So the donation goal is in fact less than what it actually costs to keep this place running. Ad revenues allows us to set a lower donation goal, and they also serve as a reserve for when we do miss our donation goal, which happened in December.
Let's not forget CSGO coming soon, we will have to get more or better hardware to host all those servers! So please keep donations coming as 100% of it goes towards the community and servers! :)
