Welcome to a Capitalist country, where money is more important then everything else.
The onus is on the PUBLIC to do RESEARCH on their own, not the Capitalist run Media.
the real full information on every story is out there, people are just too fucking lazy to find it / read it.
CBC's The Fifth Estate is an AMAZING show, REAL journalism is done and it shows, Market Place as well.
You make good points, but it grows tiresome when you have to sift through 7 different takes on 1 story to find 20% of the truth.
It's become a war of attrition against my time to be informed. Either I can choose my flavour of "truth", read my partisan drivel and be told what my faction thinks I want to hear and know, or I can spend a lot of the time I should be spending on more worthy pursuits trying vainly to find some modicum of truth amongst the skewed perspectives of the varying factions.
Perhaps I'm just nostalgic for the stale and grey facts of a century ago, but miss the days when the news was just a lifeless depiction of facts that didn't jump to conclusions or misdirect me into seeing things a certain way because there was profit in it for someone. Leaving it painted grey forces me to think for myself and draw my own conclusions.
I'm just sick of having to read the granola perspective, the cry baby perspective, the intelligentia's perspective, the cutt-throat financialist perspective, the militarist perspective and the naive and impressionable starving artists / student perspective, boiling it all down to it's core elements and sifting through what little remains all so that I can take an educated guess at what the truth behind it all really is.
At the end of the day, it rarely seems worth it when I normally couldn't give a shit about whatever they are telling me anyhow. If I am going to have to make an educated guess, I'd rather try to find a source who's leanings and deceptions I am familiar with and take a wild guess at what they are not telling me. As a former journalism student, I just find its sad that journalists are allowed to print anything but the whole, unbiased truth unless they want to give up their thankless and poor paying jobs to do so.
It's a symbol of the erosion of the moral fabric and principles upon which North American society were founded, and which once made us great. Now, it's made us our own worst enemy. All the things we fought to escape in the Old World have been improved upon, perfected, and re-instituted in our society. Half of us don't even know it, and most of the other half don't care.
Democracy only works if you have a well-educated and well-informed public, and an impartial fourth estate is key to second half of that statement. No wonder our political system is such a fucking disaster. We are lied to and kept ignorant because we are easier to fool that way all to influence our votes. This makes the purpose of our democracy and the foundation of our entire society essentially meaningless.
Might as well have a dictator IMO if you can't keep the populace well-educated and well-informed. At least a dictator can hang around long enough to provoke real, positive change to a nation without having to worry about changing direction to suck the cock of the common fool every 3 - 4 years to dupe the public into voting his way in the next election.
It's Animal Farm all over again, and I find it both troubling and sad. It's a fucking waste of a revolution if you ask me. But, I'm ranting and being Dr Downer. Don't mind me. Stare at the kitties instead.
