I don't know if anyone's read the latest on this but apparently this Adam Lanza guy was a huge counter-strike fan and was like the only social thing he'd do. They're even trying to say that he got the idea for his weapons of choice from the M4 and glock combo or something in the globe and mail. Personally I think he got the idea from his mom and her arsenal of assault weapons but queue anti-counter-strike media coverage...

I haven't read/heard of this type of report yet, but I'm not surprised the media is now pointing towards some sort of game. Personally, I think the media has nothing left to cover but mourning kids that died - and I guess that's 'boring' for them, so they're just gonna drag this out by making some pretty wild assumptions

It seems everyone wants to cast blame somewhere and when there's no one left alive to blame we pass the buck onto the next most convenient target. Even trying to draw similarities that counter strike uses an assault weapon and a pistol like he did so that must have been where he got his inspiration... I agree with you buckshot, it's terrible sadness and that's all there really is to it. There's always going to be nutjobs out there that are going to make mass devastation. I'd like to think that games like this gives people an outlet. At least in my own experience fps's reduce levels of anxiety and violent tendencies and allows for social development. To judge a genre of game based upon the most statistically anomalous individuals who partake in which is just madness.

Nice pun (mehbe) there. I think they just figure it's a bit more obscure (most modern FPS players won't have heard of it), so instead of passing the blame onto CoD, they have this "to blame". Maybe they just want to target the demographic of people who are incredibly intolerant of minorities and terrorists.

I hate saying it, but I truly believe there is no explanation for what happened... you can't really blame anything, in particular. Maybe the kid was mentally fucked.. maybe he was depressed... maybe the games got to him.. who knows. But what I truly believe is that he just "did it"... that's it.
