Soooo my car got fucked up when I got rear ended yesterday. The scoop is that since it is a 10 year old car('99 monte carlo) it will probably just get total'd by the guys insurance company and they will write me a check for pre-accident car value($2000ish).

So that leaves me without a car. I could buy the total'd car for like $400 from them and drive it, however its fucked enough where it won't be drivable next winter.

sooooooooooooooooo i need a new car.

IDEAS? I plan to put about $6000-8000 into it. No trucks, no SUVs, no pedovans/icecream trucks :P

Yeah it sucks I had my sick ass lowered pimped to the max like 25 g max grand am totaled and only got 6 for it and had to find a car it sucked. Just be careful not to jump into something and get a piece. Ask for a carfax lol

Everyone, don't hate, buuuuuuuuut a civic:

- decent insurance
- great on gas
- reliable as hell (minimal to NO repairs)
- easy to fix/repair (should you need to, or just want to customize) because of MASSIVE amount of them out there + market for them is huge
- they're not "cheap", they're decent cars and you won't mind being 'spotted' in one

This day in age, if I had 6-8 Gs to crank out, I would probably go for a Toyota or some shit, for the low insurance and gas mileage. However there are great deals on '00-06 GM cars at dealerships, so I think your budget should get you into a pretty decent car, my good man.

I bought a 99 audi TT with 70k miles on it for $9k. All wheel drive, looks sweet as shit, makes everyone think you're a yuppy fuck... oh wait, that's not a good thing. Hah, I don't know. It's a nice car but it's really small and everyone thinks you have a lot of money.

But I think that amount of $ is sufficient enough to buy a really decent car, depending on the year/amount of KM's....or in Steves case MILES. lol

Basically everyone I talk to has been saying close to what bj/47 have said,

Save most of my green and just get a older civic to get me through my last year of college. Then buy a balling new car when I get outta college.

I know hardly anything about civics, what are some good series?

I bought a 93 accord for $2,700 and drove it for 6 years with basically no maintenance. Best damn car I'll ever own. Just got rid of it with 180,000 miles and it still ran strong, got $600 for it. Don't shy away from a good accord if you see one.

I dont like em. but gotta give credit where its due. civics are prolly the most reliable car out there. but along with that so is any JAP car. so if you like Acura's Get a 1.7 el which is a civic fully loaded. (More Comfortable seats, Leather [most of em] and a little more kick.)

Or theres always a finance option. where u put that 2000 down. and used the remaining 6 to do monthly payments. but thats not for all

But seriously, i would be +1 on a Civic. I had 95 civic and it ran fine until i sold it in '03. Very reliable, very little maintenance. I mean, let's face it -- you're a student so you want something that won't hit you for $1000 to fix down the road.

My 92 civic has 250,000+ KM on it and the only thing i've had to replace are mufflers and batteries. It is starting to rust tho.

If you have $6-8K man, save it and start taking the Shoelace Express. Save your money man, by the time you are outta college with a job, you can afford yourself a lease on a nice audi or some other euro/jap import.

Civics are nice starter cars but man, u don't wanna be rolling in one for the next 6-8 years either.

If you want to be smart, which I know you aren't, then save your money...altho my friend did get a killer deal on a pontiac G6 for $3000 under-cost and with free upgrades (moonroof, spoiler, heated seats, and other trinkets).

If you want cheap cars right now, pretty much any GM/Ford dealership will provide one along with a nutsack suck and taffee pull.
