so ive been putting off buying a new laptop for a while now, wasting my money on other things... my original goal was to purchase a macbook pro... but as amazing as they are, theyre expensive and i dont have that kind of money right now.

whats a decent laptop for under $750?

go to Futureshop, you can pick a pretty decent one... Now with a good Video Card as well (in reality your looking for one with a Radeon HD 4650 1Gb), that should be a little harder... I'll post back here with a decent one.

What're you using it for Mandy? Mmm..if you want something portable for school, etc. there are many options. But if you end up buying one of those hulking 17+" laptops that have the power of a desktop, then don't bother because a month in you're not going to want to take it anywhere with you. Speaking from what I see amongst some of my friends.

mostly for school. i do a lot of video editing and voice-overs, hence why i wanted a macbook pro, but thats not going to happen.
im more comfortable with buying HP's and Toshiba's cause ive had experience with those brands in the past.
nothing too big. i dont want a massive screen but big enough so that i dont have to fuck up my eyes.
decent amount of memory would be awesome too...
colours? :) pink?

i'd sacrifice a lot of power to get a small laptop, this one doesent too much C2D ia good to go, ram is fine at 2gb, but you can probably upgrade this to 8 gb a year from now just for the sake of it when its ram becomes a lot cheaper (hopefully).

centrino 2 is current or just a bit outdated. some kind of intel certification.

i definitely would not recommed a netbook with an atom or any laptop with amd processor...

I got my macbook for school because im going to be doing alot of editing with it, Video and on Adobe. I loaded the crap out of it and even with the Student Discount it came to
$2000 + $300 Warranty + Tax = $3400
Since your not going to be doing any Rendering wth your computer i think you may be able to get away with a regular macbook.

just picked up a really nice HP for my uncle for 850 form staples. it was a DV7 and came with a free printer, 3 years of kapersky, and a new D-Link wireless router for 10 bucks more. Its a really nice machine that you can pretty well do anything with. 17" screen FULL keyboard with numpad, Windows 7, etc.

here's the link: [link=http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Catalog/cat_sku.asp?CatIds=72%2C73%2C74,4193&webid=830067&affixedcode=WW]CLICKY[/link]
