Bulking Up?

thanks for advice guys, i'm def gonna try out them hammer and zottman curls because the normal curls don't seem to be good for anything. all my workouts now are with free weights, local gym is packed at all hours so it's not even worth going. i think my main issue now is that some of the workouts aren't that effective even maintaining proper form and as much weight as i can go for 5-6 reps. it's tough to increase my food intake because i just don't get that hungry, i guess i need a more effective way to break down the muscles to create the hunger?

Food increase will have to start slow it took me 4 weeks to get to as much as i eat at breakfast but the rest you will catch up with fairly fast. Your body will adapt. I went from eating 3 meals a day to 8 fairly quick you just have to start slow.

I'm just giving the guy advice. I'm still fairly new to lifting, but I get my info from my buddies who are body builders.
Why don't you just go do Arnolds routine brains, he had the best body ever. Thats how it works right?

Do what ever you want brains/salvador but know this: No knowledgeable trainer would ever start a beginning/intermediate out with pyramid sets. Brains, maybe this is why you made a post a few weeks ago crying about no gains and inquiring about steroids. Your bodybuilding 'friends' aren't giving you very good advice for a beginner, brains.

Mark Rippletoe's knowledge > brain's knowledge.

If you want strength: you start with a program like Starting Strength or Strong Lifts
If you want aesthetics: you start with ^ for 6 months to a year and build a strength base.

Arnold didn't become Mr. Olympia by doing pyramid sets with 12lb dumbbells.

i added (goblet) squats to the start of my workouts and it really seems to have an effect. biceps are still a point of weakness, i'm adding weight in everything else but those. should i be maybe cut back the weight and increasing the reps when doing curls? i notice the triceps are coming along nicely from mainly pushups despite it not being a very strenuous exercise. i'm thinking of going a week or two with less weight and more reps to give my back a shot at toning up, it's getting tougher and tougher to maintain form with the heavier weights

Salvador, do assisted (if needed) or unassisted pull ups to workout your biceps. It builds huge strength and you get a bit of core worked on too. Your bis will get jacked and be tight once you are able to do a few sets of 15-20 comfortably. If you want giat biceps you could do dumbell curls n what not but pull ups are great

Make sure you do atleast 4 exercises that mainly work the biceps. Do some barbell curls, isolation bicep curls (preacher curls), cable curls and hammer curls (uses forearms as well), and youll notice a difference within weeks. Remember, 12-10-8-6

Man, at 140, I wouldn't work out. You're only going to get leaner and leaner. Just eat. Eat until you get fucking sick of the food you're eating (eat healthy, obviously). For bulk - baked/cooked chicken and rice all day everyday. By you doing the exercises you're doing, you'll gain strength and be more "cut", but I don't see you packin on a lot of pounds.

wouldn't say that i was at roughly 140 when i started and was at 180 in 3 months. Posted a pretty close example of the diet i was on.
He has to be on a HIGH carb diet needs to be eating whole wheat noodles as well 1 1/2 cups a meal when added to 4-8 oz of a meat.

You just proved my point - He needs to EAT! Working out here and there, ok. But not everyone's the same, and generally speaking, small guys will shed weight quickly when they 'work out'.

My best advice - get a trainer. You won't get sound advice from us because we found out what works for us.

Pull-up will do nothing for size it will only cut what you already have unless you add additional weight. At my high of 180lbs i could pump 35+ and just before my surgery i was on pace to hit 50 in a set in 2 days at 170. Pull-up did nothing for me for size only cut/made more defined.

I'll have to see if i can find my exact diet and my workouts when i started. I put on 4 inches on my bicepts/tricepts and i'm thinking 14 or 15 inches around my chest in 3 months with body fat decreasing.

O yeah and a ton besides over night he needs to eat every 2 hours or so. If he is a hard gainer like i am that what he needs to do.

I just got permission to start back to the gym this week i dropped 10lbs in the last 2 months. My new diet blows away my old i added another 800 cal meal after dinner

Pretty much, eat whatever you want for size. Big macs, pizza, etc. Eat big and pump big.
