We have a tremendous amount of bot traffic on our site right now, I tried to get the robots.txt and .htaccess to block it but not having great success. I know which bots are causing the biggest problem. If someone is better versed in .htaccess than I am shoot me a pm to give us a hand please. Thanks.

Ya, I'm curious to learn as well... I wish I knew all of this shit so I could help out man... Seems to me every time there's a technical issue with the server/website, I realize how under-educated I am regarding the subjects at hand :(

They are harvesting bots, they harvest content and images, they are not malicious but are entirely unnecessary and eat up tons of bandwidth.

Free download of Norton Anti-Bot. It's 10.1Mb. I'm not sure how one would go about running it on the website, but it's a shot.

"Last, but not least, Microsoft provides a Malicious Software Removal Tool (MSRT), which is updated once a month and released on Patch Tuesdays. This tool is capable of detecting and removing any Bot it is programmed to detect. While it is good at doing its job (Microsoft claims to have destroyed the Storm Botnet with the MSRT), it is limited by having only monthly updates. This tool runs automatically once a month when you download and install your Windows Updates"

This talks about configuring spiders and robots that attack the "Who's online" section of a forum, and what to do.
