well i am sorry to hear about all the layoffs. im stuck working for a small contracting company until i go back to school where i deal with telecommunications. and well im working in a school and just fuckin around most of the time. and Ba Chicka. i know what your going through a lot of my buddies are tradesmen..and well they got let go and they refuse to get another job that wont support thier lifestyle. besides...the way i see it is....u pay the taxes for people who refuse to work and collect EI might aswell take some back.

Fork thats not true at all. Union Employees cant go look for a job. We have a job, just no work. The Union hands out work job by job, man by man, in the order that they were laid off. Shit happens to me all the time. We pay into that shit all year long so if we are laid off why wouldnt we deserve to get that money back?

employment insurance is a set deduction, a maximum of 752 dollars (or there abouts, i'll update this post with more accurate info when i get into work) from everyone.
most people end up paying up to that maximum during the year, i think the math is something like if you make over 28K you get hit with full EI.
so i contribute as much as you do, only i have to jump through hoops to get that shit if i ever get the boot, and even then there is a limit on to how much i can get.
if you're telling me that UNIONS are forcing you to drain the government emergency fund when you could, if you wanted to, find something else to do in the meantime, thats just downright backwards!

If I were to go out and work on my own i would violate the agreement i signed when i joined and they would charge me and kick me out of the union. then I could go work for some scab company and bounce around from job to job for half of the pay and no benefits.
you have to understand that getting laid off and losing your job are 2 different things. If you got a layoff due to shortage of work you are saying that you would not get EI?
If I want to stay working i can jump through hoops too, I can travel and go work out of town where there is work, like say, Sarnia or Alberta. but that is only if they are asking for men, which is usually only a few at a time, which is what i prefer doing opposed to staying home.
I just dont understand your issue with me drawing EI when im laid off. I could probably go flip burgers waiting for work but i would most likely lose my house/truck on 8 bucks an hour.
Our situation is no different than the millions of people who have seasonal jobs such as farmers or Fishermen. EI is there to support you if you lose your job without doing anything wrong, due to shortage of work.
