Blocking Ports.

I'm pretty sure your standard DLink can block outgoing packets. There also exists well known ports for warcraft.

This is how I would do it. Block all outgoing ports for TCP/UDP/ICMP/IGMP

Allow port 80 (http), 21/22 (sftp/ssh) CS/WoW ports

Yep, i know the needed ports for Wow. Im beginning to think my router isnt able to block them.

edit: Leroy mentioned packets so might this be what i am looking for?

I'd need to see the firewall tab to make an educated decision, although a lookup on your router type reveal that I believe it can

http://static.tigerdirect.com/pdf/Dynapower-TL-WR642G-manual.pdf

if this is anywhere near your type, they tend to follow similar patterns and interfaces. Reference: 5.8.1

In context of this discussion, ignore the word packet for the time being, concentrate on blocking ports.

As a test case, try blocking port 80. It serves as a good test bed as you can immediately tell if its blocked or not (refresh page)

You can also be tricksy, and forward those IP's on those ports to an internal address, ex: 127.0.0.1. In a large network this would be nearly impossible, but judging from the hardware we're dealing with, I'm guess its your personal laptop, iPhone, printer, desktop, and all the near neighbours in radioshot.

Anymore and I'm afraid I'm going to have to start charging.

Heres the firewall tab.

Ill see if i can fiddle around with it a bit.

Edit: I think i may have figured it out with the help of Leroy directing me to the manual. Ill confirm whether or not ive actually managed to block ports tomorrow after work.

Thanks for all the help peeps.

I'm assuming you want to block your WoW DATA while you game, rather than block it all together (so you can't game).

Configure your security settings for the files/folders under your WoW directory, and let it be read access only. There's ways to do this. You could also try BitLocker (Windows Vista/7 Ultimate are the only versions with this).

Blocking ports for games or making them read-only will not allow you to play the game anymore. Just letting you know.

EDIT: NOT to step over Leroy's advice, because the man is schooled in this shit. His advice is bomb. I'm merely suggesting a possible alternative.

The thing is, the game isn't on my laptop it's on the person's who's playing comptuer. I think if I just block that port I should be fine because I don't plan on playing it any time soon. Either way I think I figured it out because when I was fiddling with it last night I blocked all my webpages on accident.

Ye so, i give up. After i managed to block all my webpages and internet in general (even though it said i had a connection) i tried to work backwards to block certain individual ports but it wasnt working. Thanks anyways for every1s input.
