Don't ask me how I ran into this browsing reddit or whatever, but this sounds really far fetched. Has there been anything on the news in Canada or have any of you heard anything about "security" firing upon Canadian protestors at Irving Oil Canaport? That is a Canadian based website and I remember hearing about some big spills or something to do with oil companies up your guys' way recently. Please tell me this is just made up ridiculous nonsense.

There were reports of some protestors in New Brunswick, I think it was, protesting shale gas exploration and after they tossed a few molotovs and someone fired a gun, they got a bunch of detentions, arrests and I think tear gas was fired. It's hard to sort the truth from the mythology in these stories, though. Sometimes, you get angry butt-hurt mobs getting in police faces for days and days on end, throwing shit at them and threatening them. Then, one dude takes it too far and tosses a molly so the cops unload with the tear gas and that's what ends up on the news, claiming the police are abusive and all that.

To me, this is akin to your little brother following you around playing the "Not touching" game for a few hours until you finally snap and slap his ass, so he goes and cries to mom that you hit him. You ask for a smack, that's what the fuck you're gonna get. Other than that, I can't shed much light on the subject.

After reading the article, I think this is the same incident and to be honest, I think this is only projecting half of the truth. I can't say for sure because I wasn't there but "Unarmed, peaceful protestors" is probably a very generous way of describing these guys. I know from the reports I read, there was a homemade molotov thrown and shots fired by one of the "Unarmed, peaceful protestors", albeit into the air as a "Show of force".

As always in contentious issues like this, there are only 2 ways to know the truth.

#1 Be there
#2 read all the news reports you can about the issue, knowing that all of them will be 98% false, collect all the common threads and contradictory reports to get an idea of all the things which MAY have happened and in the end, make an educated guess. Your guess will be just as good as the lies - half-truths or factual omissions you read in any single news story.
