America - Indefinite Detention, more.

so you may or may not have (hopefully have) heard of the insane bill that went through allowing the US to indefinitely detain American citizens. As it stands, anyone inside the USA basically has no rights whatsoever (keeping in mind the *ithink* still active Patriot Act).

Well... put that on top of this.

I have no idea why this isn't bigger news. I suppose everyone is busy arguing/fighting against Bill C-38. (another issue)

also, here's a few speculations of what could land you detained indefinitely in America, potentially even if you are Canadian.

i should but it gets way too depressing. mostly, i should have more sources.

the main point of this post is not America (fail on the part of whoever renamed my post). although i was speculating on it's implications, the main point is the first link and the idea of American law enforcement gradually gaining free reign in Canada. Which is INSANE.
also, i still don't see anyone throwing the book at the Patriot Act, which has equally "chilling" potentials.

not true... necessarily. they have a few legit journalists. blogs are modernizing man, more and more credible journalists are moving to the internet. it actually started with the sports industry. it could be argued that blogs really took off during the NHL Lockout. All the news being reported on the lockout was being reported by hockey blogs, not by major papers like The Globe and Mail or National Post.

and yeah, despite how ridiculously bent to the right the U.S. Supreme Court is, I don't see Roberts or Scalia even, letting this law continue to live.

I don't think that's necessarily going to be the case. We have a government currently trying to pass a massive crime bill (or they probably have already) that will grant themselves great powers. They're going to fight long and hard to make sure Canadian criminals get justice here.

Also, welcome back Conrad Black to Canada. Fucking Tories.
