Unskilled? I'd like to see you push, maintain, or service an aircraft....

lol? Air ports in America hire and train late high school kids for these jobs. lol.

If my roommate was servicing aircraft's at 18, its not a skilled job.

There's the maintenance (which is repair of engines, landing gear, or anything on the aircraft body) which obviously requires post-secondary/trade skills. Then there's the service and push backs, which is less demanding on education, put still a lot of responsibility for passengers and aircraft safety. AC deals with 14 different types of aircraft in Toronto, so specific training and skills ror each one is required including knowledge of airplane components, safety, emergency situations, and the movement of the aircraft at the gate. Not sure what aircrafts your roommate was servicing, but he may have had it the same or less extensive (based on location, and airport specifications). Both fall under the same union and are the largest membership in an airline.

Completing your grade 12 is a requirement for employment.

I was waiting to get on this thread after I read it in the paper lol.

Ragin' Wh1te  lol, I can get that this would get you aggravated but there is not a lot of skill involved with moving baggage from here to there or knowing 12 planes (nothing a manual can't inform). I understand that it probably requires an understanding of the logistical process but isn't out of the learning capabilities of the average person.

As for the people working on the motors and landing gear and such, they have a tough job and probably deserve the $30+ / hour they make. But people that are moving baggage here and there and doing the this and that which doesn't have the same responsibility that the repair guys have, therefore should not be in the same union.

You miss place baggage AC has to deal with a pissed off customers. Repair fucks up a motor and the plane crashes and kills people. Major difference in responsibility. You can't group together the people who perform the logistics of the company versus the maintenance of the company, that's why your union can't do shit right now. Why do you think the pilots have their own union?

And you can't just ".. the employers want more money yak yak yak." They bare the responsibility of the whole company and probably deal with the most shit in than anyone else in the company.

But I def understand where you come from Wh1te, you pay all these union dues and are told you would get things and now they aren't providing. assuming 10$ per pay cheque, 2 pay cheques a month. $240 /per employee annually, Hwo many employees you guys have? 100'000 + = $24'000'000 / year. Do you wonder where your money goes?

Labor disputes are always excellent debate issues

True to an extent. Most procedures can be performed through "manual" training. But there's a lot of hands on skills and abilities you gain while working that they don't teach you (like a lot of jobs). It's 14*! :P

The $30 you see "moving" baggage is the rate of employees that have been there atleast 15 years and are a "Team Leader" or "Lead" who directs a crew under them while doing a flight. The starting wage is $10.80/hr (pathetic for minimum wage these days) and caps out at either $15 (part time) or $20 (full time) after 10 years of service for your bag movers.

We misplace luggage, yes. Mechanics routinely checklist each flight, yes. You aware that we are also responsible for load and balance in each aircraft, safety checks on the outside and inside of the aircraft, traffic control on the ground when moving the aircraft, and giving you the finger from outside to your little window :) They work on separate pay rate tables you know, one for the ramp (leads and baggage), one for maintenance, and one for cabin cleaning. Mixing the hourly wages does not happen, nor does it affect "grouping together" a membership.

And you can't just ".. the employers want more money yak yak yak." They bare the responsibility of the whole company and probably deal with the most shit in than anyone else in the company.

They have people under them to do their dirty work. They just spit orders, from a desk, in a comfy chair, sucking government cock.

Nothing to do with the strike, or current issue. 100,000? lol you're on crack, only 1500 in Toronto under this union.
