I just got dozens of e-mails from Steam saying that the Steam acct. associated with my e-mail was ____
(What it actually is isn't important :P)

But there are dozens and I never once asked Steam, can someone confirm what is happening?

I can. It's Christmas, and someone's trying to steal your shit.

Seems like it :/

Except that it only tells ME my Steam Acct. name...so what do they hope to accomplish by this?

Wondering how this'll work out.
I'm telling you, it's 100% some kid trying to steal your account. They hope you're going to click their link and, more than likely, "verify your information" - aka, tell them your Steam login and password information. A MASSIVE hur derp. You'd be surprised by how many kids fall prey to this, it's fucking hilarious. Imagine, someone says to you: Hey, can I have your Debit card and PIN, so I know it's yours? hahahahahahahahahahahaha

There's no link inside that doesn't lead to Steam Support, and it is sent by Steam it seems.

It seems like a very feeble attempt indeed. Or Steam messed up.

Opened a ticket with support, let's see what they say.

Be very careful, mate... these kids somehow get a hold of url's that are almost identical to the real url of such a site. There may only be a one-character difference. I would straight mark that e-mail as spam and delete.

Steam don't give a fuck for it's users, or their accounts (unless you make a stink and contact them). They will never contact you, or any of their account holders.

I've been getting a lot of emails like this recently..
For reference, this is the one I keep getting.
GZVcj.png

My IRL friend got it a while ago and we put it down to someone on his facebook who new his email trying to hack him.
I doubt enough of my facebook friends would care about steam enough to try and hack me...so my guess is it's some kind of glitch.
Unless there is an area somewhere on steam that shows my email address to everyone.

That's a legitimate e-mail that's sent when you enter on any Steam Client or the Steam Website that you have forgotten your Username, accessible by clicking on "Retrieve a Lost Account..." at the splash screen on the client or website. Then you would click on "I don't know my account name". Then click on "I remember the contact email address I used".

Some has gotten a hold of your e-mail that is trying to take your Steam account, if you have gotten several of these queries...I would open up a Support Ticket and ask if they know anything else that could be causing it, if it's a certain IP that's constantly sending those queries, they might be able to compare the two and realize someone is trying to hijack your account.

Try changing the password of your e-mail and hiding that e-mail from public view...but since someone already knows it, I'd say go ahead and change the password, then possibly create a second, personal e-mail that no one should ever know except Steam/Your Bank...and anything that can be directly linked to something legal. (Steam: FBI, Bank: FBI/CIA/Secret Service *lol*) Facebook is one of the most highest places for the scum of the internet to probe and feed off contact information, every message/application you use on Facebook takes your information. It's unavoidable, I'd have to recommend to stop using FaceBook Applications altogether and only use those that are a 'must-have', such as Steam, DARKLY Gaming Network, etc...likes of sites you know.

Games on Facebook are for fags. :yaoming:

I changed the password when it first happened, checked all my security info etc.
The only way someone can get into my email is by knowing my second account, or by being on my actual computer.
And again to get into my second account, you need access to my first account or my computer.
It's a vicious circle ;D

Along with that, I have Steam Guard enabled.
I'm not too concerned about it, but if it DOES carry on, I may open a support ticket.

EDIT: I also have a Gmail account so I may go ahead and switch over to that.

You don't need to tell anyone...regardless, since EVERYONE will know it now, might as well make that public and use an alternative e-mail for your sensitive items, which is never posted anywhere.

Who the hell would want you and your smelly unfortunate backpack? Perform

Still unsure about switching my e-mail however. ;_;

Tis the season...OF THIEVES!

Check your e-mails, hide your pron, watch your back...never know what may happen. Hijacking's serious business although Jakk probably posted everything you needs to know.

Also if you haven't enabled Steam Guard, you're an idiot and deserve your account hijacked.
